Can certainly appreciate Hurricane and others' sourness here. I should be over it soon. Maybe March.... March 2027. After that I'll only stick pins in my Illingworth voodoo doll on 12 Feb anniversaries and when I'm in a particularly bad mood.I'm just pleased the umpiring error hasn't cost us....
Or are we over that now?
Not sure about this. Marsh is still really enduring his struggles finding batting form in test cricket. If we'd nipped him out early on day 2 Aus would've been about 150/5 and the game would've been very much alive. At the very least NZ would've been odds on to keep Australia below a 150 lead. Can certainly appreciate Hurricane and others' sourness here. I should be over it soon. Maybe March.... March 2027. In all honesty the dropped catch hurt a lot more - that was to stay in touching distance of the game whereas by the time Voges was bowled not bowled it was always going to be a match where NZ needed to score 500-600 in the second innings to save the match. Not to mention NZ's batting.
Thought Voges looked a well-organised player ever since I saw him in an ODI in the West Indies (iirc) ages ago. However I feel if he really wants to move to the next level he should drop the Jedi Brah from the cheerleaders club, as like that unfortunate Energetic/Bangladesh situation it makes Voges a **** ****.
In closing thoughts, Martin Guptill will save us.
Even with only a 150 run deficit we would still have needed to score 500 second innings though. But yeah it wasn't *over* then, but very much heading that way.Not sure about this. Having said that, yeah the Smith moment was probably the most crucial in the innings.
