get real..tooextracool said:whatever it is, lehmann on top form is a far far better player against spin than ponting can ever dream off.
times running out for ponting IMO, averaging as low as he has in india is just not good enough to be considered great.
age_master said:look at his record though, average getting higher and higher as his career goes on, hes alot better against spin than he used to be.
And would you not consider Warne a great bowler because he has a poor record in India ??Deja moo said:^ Does'nt Ponting have 8 or 9 tests in India at an average of 12 ?
true but I dont suspect that will continue.Deja moo said:Actually his average has been dropping since the tour to SL (33 there?)..
doesn't this sorta say how good he is at the same time as you putting him down. by saying his only avging so many there it also means he avgs heaps more in other countries as well, like up around 60Deja moo said:^ Does'nt Ponting have 8 or 9 tests in India at an average of 12 ?
Sure Warne is a great bowler....but a great bowler with a slight weakness nevertheless.Eclipse said:And would you not consider Warne a great bowler because he has a poor record in India ??
Its based on performances in 1996 , 1998 , 2001 and this one test in 2004.Pretty much spread over his entire career. The pitch this time could have been a factor , but the average was still 12 or something before this series .Achilles heel ?Eclipse said:....besides It's just way to harsh to judge him on one performance on lets face it an awfull pitch and on performances 4 years ago..
Not putting him down mate. Just pointing out a flaw.Slats4ever said:doesn't this sorta say how good he is at the same time as you putting him down. by saying his only avging so many there it also means he avgs heaps more in other countries as well, like up around 60
Same with Ponting..Deja moo said:Sure Warne is a great bowler....but a great bowler with a slight weakness nevertheless.
You forgeting how much Ponting has improved as a player since 2001.. and I am sure he would do much better if he was given a sustained run ie an entire test series In Indian conditions.. He missed out on that opertunity this time unfortunatly. Its based on performances in 1996 , 1998 , 2001 and this one test in 2004.Pretty much spread over his entire career. The pitch this time could have been a factor , but the average was still 12 or something before this series .Achilles heel ?

I am a realist and know he will never avrage 40+ in Indian conditions but he is good enough for mid - high 30s.
About 70 I think..Deja moo said:Yea, thats fair enough.....could br the bowling too. Wonder how much he averages vs Pakistan ?
