**Official** Australia in India Thread

Without seeing the test, I gather it was an 8th day pitch...so batting would have been extremely tough even if it was a huge series decider.

Australia were the better team.. It would have been a liitle weird if it had been a drawn series again.

That second test was pretty even, and India were probably on top for most of the match, it was only that partnership between Martyn and Gillespie that put Australia in front. But overall Australia did dominate.

What a game!

Yeah, I agree with the above sentiments, but it so could've been 2-2. But what the hell, Australia deserves this series and this trophy.

Well done to Murali Kartik and also Dinesh Karthik. Geoff Lawson summed it up perfectly on Fox Sports, we would've lost this match with Patel behind the stumps.

Yeah, as somebody who thought that India had the better of us out here in Australia, I thought the Aussies were considerably better than the Indians this series. I do think the Indians had a very good chance in Chennai, but IMO this pitch turned the match into a tossup. India still have some serious problems to solve, and Australia did great this tour to seize back the Border-Gavaskar trophy. I'm pretty happy with 2-1 - it's fairly indicative of the contest (and it was perilously close to 3-1).

There's no doubt in my mind that Australia were the better team. That's obvious, and yes it could have been 2-2 but as an Indian cricket fan I'm not going to make that excuse. Australia were clearly superior.

That being said, pay credit where its due. India's spirit in this match was evident. Tendulkar and Laxman stuck with it despite being in horrid form, and after collapsing to the might of Michael Clarke, they came on the field with the belief that they could win, and they did.

Great match. :)

Dinesh Karthik should be keeping Patel out of the team for a long time. When Karthik made his ODI debut, India also won, thanks to a brilliant stumping. Will Ganguly still stand beside Parthiv?

Australia would've won just with the number of byes Patel would concede.

Helluva game..............better entertainment than many ODIs these days..........

I agree with the complaints re the pitch - 40 wickets in a little over 2 days play is not what constitutes a Test Match IMO................

I should congradulate IND on their win, but anything less under these conditions when playing with 3 frontline spin bowlers would have been a farce....

I will congradulate the AUS tail for getting so close after Gilchrist fell...........

Marto's MOTS confirms for me that he is the 'glue' in this AUS batting lineup........

special mention of the performances of Gillespie & Clarke during the series, and honourable mentions for Kasper, Katich & a hats off for Gilchrist.

:)

Peter Roebuck's comments concerning the pitch are actually pretty funny when you consider the last sentence I quote here (this was written last night, coming into the third day of the match):

"An appalling pitch has been prepared for this fourth Test match. The game of bat and ball has been turned into a lottery. It is hard to imagine that any serious work was done on the surface before play began.

Had the curator cut a strip in the outfield, it could hardly have played any worse. Indeed, the net pitches were so much better that one smallish opening batsman from Perth was taken aback by the contrast. Either those responsible are incompetent or some malfeasance was involved.

It is hard to avoid thinking that the wretchedness of the pitch was a deliberate ploy by a community desperate to secure a consolation victory. Fortunately, the hosts were hoist by their own petard."

Okay i get all your points about the 2-2 thing but you can't blame me for feeling that way.

I think that Mcgrath and Warne made the difference here, obviously other players like Martyn and Clarke did brilliantly but the Indian batsman had such a good time in Australia without the two main bowlers and the difference showed in this series.

Yes, you're right about Laxman and Tendulkar. It's the period that won the test match for India. The phrase "collapsing to the might of Michael Clarke" kinda makes me giggle a bit though, even if it was a harbinger for what was to come.
