hey! give the kid a break!! he has such a tough job. firstly, the aussies dropped 5-6 so he has to return the compliment. Then just to show we are good hosts, he has to try and double the figure!!! that cannot be easy...JustTool said:Gillespie dropped by Parthiv - thick edge. The ball was going down while Parthiv was going up. How can India expect to get any one out with such a MORON for a wicketkeeper. Must be depressing for the bowlers. The only thing he can do, that no othe WK can do in the world, is direct the ball towards the helmets
You guys are biased in your praise. Scorecard reads:shaka said:lunchtime score: 230/4 Gillespie on 15

300 for me in u r not all out
and anything above 200 other wise and currently thay lead by 89 Runs half way there
Anything above 200 is a winning score. If they cant win after 250 Warne should retire to the Himalayasbiased indian said:Whatscore u would like to set india if u r Aussie captain

Also amazing that Ganguly would not bowl Sehwag and would give Yuvraj a shot. I felt that there should have been more close-in fielders when Kumble was bowling. Zaheer and irfan looked very listless. Whoever wins this session wins the Test.SJS said:You know whats the difference between Murali (or any other bowler with brains) and Harbhajan ?
Murali is a man and Harbhajan is a 'khota' (donkey) !
Murali will keep learning and improving even when he is approaching 700 wickets and Harbhajan will keep persisting with his follies even after tailenders have put on 200 runs patnership against him !!!
Australians have clearly learn their lessons and Martyn is simply refusing to lunge forward hopefully as almost all Aussies did in the first innings.
Inspite of Martyn playing him , something like 90% off the time (if not more) off the backfoot, Harbhajan continues to pitch at the same spot making the batsman feel more and more at home. He keeps playing him comfortably off the backfoot and play the last ball anywhere he wants for a single.
After one and a half hour of the morning session, Gillespie had played Harbhajan for only three balls and Harbhajan has droped a few inches of the rough spot outside the right handers off sstump almost for his entire spell. Ridiculously stupid.
Whats the point in having four men crowding the batsman if a spinner is going to be played off the back foot ??
Its amazing that Ganguly should keep Kumble off the attack for so long.
One of the reasons for Australia's success is the depth of talent. I don't think that substitution idea would help India more than it would help Australia.JustTool said:Parthiv misses straightforward stumping of Gillespie (1.2 seconds !!) Geez. They should allow substitution like in soccer !!
Well, we all know Parthiv isn't the best keeper going around but have we seen more shoddy keeping at this level? This has been absolutely pathetic; an absolute embarassment.JustTool said:Parthiv misses straightforward stumping of Gillespie (1.2 seconds !!) Geez. They should allow substitution like in soccer !!
I was being sarcastic. Having said that let's not get carried away by Australia's depth and talent issue - they are still playing the match and India held the 1st innings lead.Mr Casson said:One of the reasons for Australia's success is the depth of talent. and you know of a suitable replacement too dont you? this isnt an aussie side with ponting sitting in the dressing room.....hes had 3 bad innings, 2 of which he can barely be blamed for, this is an important series, its not dead rubber, and its not against non test class opposition. you dont rest your best players for these kinda series.SJS said:I understand the sentiments and I think Laxman is one of the greatest batsmen India has produced. But I really think a match or two off will bring him back hungrier. It is not always the best thing to keep playing a player when he seems to be going through a bad patch.
Having said that, if we decided to continue with him for another game, I would understand and its okay. But remember the longer the list of failures before he is dropped, the longer it invariably takes to get him back.
A game or two off at this time will be better.
I remember once, Mohinder after two absolutely fantabulous tours got into a bad patch. But the se;lectors persisited and so did Mohinder's failures. He ended up with something like 1 run in eight innings or so before being dropped.
I think it took this extremely fine player two years or so before he got back into the side.
I have always felt that the long string of failures (which was long only because he was kept in) worked against his AND the Indian teams interests and for two years we polayed, in his place, players who werent fit enough to tie his laces.
Thats all. I am not advocating Laxmans dropping because he doesnt deserve a place oin the side but because he seems to be in a bad patch and should be rested.
perhaps you might wanna consider dropping incapable players like yuvraj and zaheer khan first?SJS said:I have said already that if we win the test, we dont drop him. Only if we lose AND he fails in the second knock. Then India would be in a dire situation and will need to be prepared to take dire measures.
It has been done before with other great players. Of course if we keep playing him, he will eventually come good but thats not a great strategy if things are not going too well.
