*Official* Australia in India 2023

The batting decline is more down to favoritism towards big stars rather than the quality that exists in Indian domestic cricket , a lot can change from now till that England series , especially in a World Cup year where players tend to walk away from international cricket when the tournament concludes.
Tbh I have hard time trusting the quality of domestic. Take Gill for example. He hardly inspires any confidence when batting on slow wickets despite being prolific in Ranji.

I mean we will have to try new players regardless since current crop isn’t cutting it. There is also concern about replacing current spinners/ pace bowlers? Do players of Ash/ Jaddu/ Bumrah caliber exist in domestic? It’s time to think about these things since Ashwin is slowly approaching retirement age and I have concern over Jadeja’s long-term fitness.

there isn’t an outright Bumrah replacement in domestics but there are spinners who won’t look out of place if they had to play instead at the least

Whatever it takes!!!
Our bowling and captaincy lost the plot a bit at the end there. 230/4 would have still made it somewhat of an even day. Now we need to bowl amazingly well to come back into this game and then bat even better.

Best batting conditions since the first test for sure. Guess they really wanted to ensure the game got to 4 days or so, maybe coz the PMs were in attendance?

Good day for the Aussies not only on the scoreboard but also winning the toss was important so India will be batting last.

If Smith alone had batted with a bit of intent and got his runs at SR of 50, Australia would be close to 300 today.

38 off 135
vs
38 off 75

No English batsman will bat super conservatively like him- '**** runs, don't want to get out at any cost'.
Worked so well for them in NZ.

A side so out of form the Bangers and now SL are turning them over at home.

Im amazed with this model of guaranteed runs you only got 256 against NZ in the second dig.

England scored over 360 once in Pakistan on a bunch of roads, what makes you think you would just smack Shami, Umesh at 7 RPO and Jadeja, Ashwin and Axer around at 4.5 RPO for the loss of only 7 wickets?

The real heroes of Bazball is the bowlers . Robinson and Anderson been incredible.

looking at current Indian batting other than Rohit there is no one that strikes a fear factor of taking the game away with a big score. maybe Pujara once in a blue moon but that’s it. Australia have Labuschagne, Smith and Khawaja who could all suddenly score big and leave us scrambling

and that is why I have no faith in this team winning if Australia can score above 350-400

Today could be a landmark day on a few fronts, especially if Green claims his maiden ton in India.

Will be the start of a really big career with the bat imo.

He looked superb last innings before that harsh LBW.

The low bounce seems to suit him strangely, as he loves playing straight bat shots, so is right in his wheelhouse with this bounce, being able to get on the front foot to most balls.

Yeah going to be really exciting to see how he goes about it in the first session

half the reason for England approach winning is their bowling being good enough and aggressive to take wickets to keep the opponent under pressure before fatigue sets in for their bowlers
Yet they can still be taken down even by underwhelming teams as they were in NZ recently.

The problem isn't that there was no turn, it's that it's so slow and there's no bounce. That's why it's easier to stay in but not score quickly.
There's more bounce on this pitch than any of the first 3 games.

Shami was getting it to rear up to Green's chest.

It's just more consistent, there's been no real grubbers yet.

How many times did Khawaja play back defensively trusting the true bounce?

In Nagpur Jadeja was appealing for LBW against batsman taking a few strides down the pitch with the ball barely getting halfway up the stumps on ball tracking.

I mean the main reason he was getting it to "rear up" was that he pitched it in his own half and Green was all but on his knees waiting for the full pitched ball (and out of his crease). It's definitely much more consistent, but mostly it's just really slow - that's what makes the back foot defensive shot so sound, you get so much time to adjust to whatever the pitch is doing. It did seem to quicken up just the tad by the end of the day though.
