Why all the pessimism from Aus fans?

Were 14 runs behind with 4 wickets in hand.

We've got 2 of the greatest bowlers of all time in the team.

Theyre going to bowl in favourable conditions.

Theyre bowling against a team that's proven to be susceptible to pressure more than once this series.

Subject to weather, it is likely that there will be a result in this test and were in front.

Thank God some of you arent in our team. One session where we lose 5 wickets for 80 in ideal bowling conditions and all the toys get thrown out of the cot.

Just out of curiosity, i saw someone mention that in england if play is lost due to rain, then the next days play doesnt start earlier? if so why? pretty sure in australia is a fair amount of play is lost then they usually start play earlier then normal
Because they already start at 10.30 which is too early really.

But weren't the Aussies saved by the rain too? They were clearly the better side for most of the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th tests and I think it was Gavaskar who said that the team that won the most sessions deserves to win the test match. I think if this series ended 2-2, it would be an unfair result for England. 3-1 would probably be unfair too. AFAIC, this series is 3-2.
Edgbaston was a very close test I think. England got on top with a first innings lead, but Austalia had them 9/130 and should have won the game from there. England dominated the 3rd and 4th tests, and should have won the third. I don't think you can say Australia were saved by the weather really, because England had 110 overs or so to bowl them out. If you get that many overs with a big target to defend you have enough of a chance to win the game. If Australia look certain to win this (which they don't yet, mind you) and rain ends it, I think that would be a sad way for the series to end. If England win it, that's fine.

No the scheduled start is 10:30am, but in england instead of starting half an hour earlier and finishing half an hour earlier as in other countries, we finish an hour later, so there is no difference
Actually we're only scheduled an extra half an hour at the end of the day, not an hour.

I feel bad for hating the English so much right now. But thats the way the cookie crumbles.

I wouldn't expect a side like Australia to get bowled out in 110 overs, provided the pitch isn't as bad as the one at Mumbai.

Well, it's a very salient point you make in terms of some of us not being in the team, because I don't think my current standard of cricket would get me into the Burnley thirds.

But I don't think people are throwing the toys out of the cot - it's just that our chances of winning probably went from fair before the morning session to less-than-fair. Most of us are still hoping we can crawl out, but I would give England the upper hand at this point. And England are hardly the only team that's been proven to be susceptible to pressure more than once this series - in the best case scenario from this point, we're still going to have to chase some kind of total to win.

Shot Warne.

Well, the best hope for Australia now is that they get out and the light holds well enough for Australia to get a proper bowl. If the day's play ends without England having to face McGrath and Lee in these conditions and without an Australian lead, that's the Ashes.

England won that match, no matter how close it was. AFAIC, I leave out the matches that had results. I only look at the matches that were drawn and try to see who was in front in those matches. So, by that calculation, even if Australia win this one, it would be 3-2 to England.
