Great innings by Flintoff.

Made a mockery of Aus putting all their fielders back and waiting for him to sacrifice his wicket.

It just seems that Ponting's entire gameplan to Flintoff is to put everyone back and just wait for him to mishit a slog and hole out. The ONLY time in the whole innings he's looked uncomfortable was that Warne over he was on 99 when they brought a few fielders up around him.

Flintoff has played wonderfully. Come to think of it, that dropped catch last night has to hurt just as much as the lbw. Australia have had a few opportunities to really get on top in this match when a wicket or two would ahve changed the game, and haven't been able to do so. On a pitch like this, you really have to take every chance you can get.

I'd think Australia could make a fair few on this pitch too, but with England on target to make 500 odd batting first that won't really matter.

That's just a heave, it seems Flintoff's responsibility ended when he got 100, usually it goes earlier so I suppose it's an improvement - just a shame when he could easily average 50 with the bat.

Exactly - very strange captaincy as it totally limits the modes of dismissal and also provides the batsmen with confidence by giving them easy singles.

I understand that the wicket is good but not trying to mix things up (a la his decision to bowl himself) makes things too easy.

Australia will be desperate to end this fast for under 450 now. That, at least, is salvagable given a spectacular batting effort.

Generally you see poor decisions even themselves out through the course of a series, we'll need 20 in the last test to square up.
What rubbish - you have to add in the decisions that go Australia's way in previous games, and there's been some.
