400 is probably a "par" score for first innings and they (England) would be bitterly disappointed if they got anything less than 400.
As Greg Matthews or Dean Jones say before every session: "the next session will determine who wins this match

I wouldn't listen to a word those guys say. They were talking absolute tripe last night. While 'Mo' Matthews occasionally says something remotely intelligent, Dean Jones like his career has no idea what he's doing.

That's exactly what I mean. Australia are better, but still over-rated.
Yeah but I don't agree that based on these few recent innings that you can say they are overrated.....underperforming maybe.....and being put to the test maybe.......but not overrated yet.

I'll reserve my judgement until after the series.

Afterall, how good did Punter and Clarke (until he misjudged one) look in that second dig.

I'll back Martyn to come good in this test too

Mo can be a d!ckhead (I've played with him).....but he's cricket smart.....he knows his stuff......but I wish he'd give up pushing MacGill's wagon. After he ripped into the Tait selection I switched to Foxtel so I don't know if he said anything more after Tait got a few wickets.....did he?

Gotta love the way Mo looks after "the brotherhood", talking up MacGilla all the time. Hasn't yet mentioned that he plays at the same club in Sydney as him, though, eh? :D

unfortunately thats true but dont think we will se that happening much in the future :D
Lee will have to watch out. If Tait continues to bowl well in this match and Lee continues to be poor, there will be seirous questions asked of him going into the 4th test considering we need to win the last two to win the series, if England win the last one it will be a draw - now what Australia want.

Yeah, but at least Matthews doesn't take himself too seriously. Dean Jones thinks that everything he says should be taken as gospel.

Whatever it takes!!!
Tait looks good, but he looks too much of the MacGill variety to me. Once people get used to his action, he always throws in 2 four balls an over. Of course there is the odd really good delivery as well, but I get the feeling that he is not really gonna be a great fast bowler of the sort of McGrath or Gillespie.

I don't think anyone's expecting him to be that good, at least not yet anyway. We just want to see that he has potential. I can see him taking Lee's role in the very near future. We should see him become a regular feature in ODIs now also with Gillespie out of favour.

true but i'll back bing to come good for the rest of the match he has bowled pretty well in every innings except the 1st innings at edgbagston so i expect some improvements, remember he bowled tres with a no-ball ya never know if he had got him out he may have bowled a bit better.

Another thing if Tait continues to bowl well in this match & at the Oval (where he should be retained) Australia may have Pigeon/Lee/Tait/Warne in the super test & for the rest of the home summer.I hope Dizzy can get back something in his bowling with some good performaces in the pura cup since i would hate to see him fall way since he is only 30 & should be the one spearheading australians attack when Pigeon goes....

Yeah I know. Read between the lines. We need to win the last two, even if we win this one, we still need to win the last one, because if we don't it could still be a chance of 2-2.

yeah, I think he will be extremely effective for the next couple of years... But after that and once everyone has an idea of his action and pace, then will be his real test.

Yes he would have got Trescothick out with that no-ball, but if he bowled a lot better he could also of had more wickets. It isn't like Lee is a stranger to getting wickets off no balls.

That'll do me....as long as the ashes don't go north

MacGill variety - 150 + wickets, best strike rate for a spinner. Not a bad benchmark really.

Anyway, Tait is only 22 and obviously has a lot of rough edges.

But remember, he's not picked for accuracy. He's been picked because he can swing a cricket ball at 95 mph.

Also, Flintoff at 24 didnt even have a run-up and 2 years ago in Aus, Harmison couldnt hit the cut portion.

At similar ages, Tait is light years ahead of where they were and look at them now.
