For anyone criticising the crowd - how'd you think a gassed up Bay 13 would be behaving in a similar situation.

They would not be jumping up and down like teeny-boppers, they would be so ****ed they would not give a rats about the cricket.

I actually wouldn't have taken the new ball, given how well the old one was doing.

One advantage of it though, is that there's still 28 over left, and it's been reversing from 15 or so, so there will be a period of serious reverse at the tail.

I think I back these two to keep out Hoggard and Harmison, the way they've been bowling. Flintoff and Jones are the key when they come back later for their final spells.

I don't understand why Vaughan doesn't want more close catchers. I guess he's happy to give Ponting singles to put Warne on strike, but the field to Warne isn't as aggressive as it could be either.

If ponting can lead the aussies out of this it will go down as one of the greatest captians knocks of all-time, he has not looked like getting out at any stage,, he has been quite simply superb.

yep until they take a wicket
Well obviously. The point is that a wicket looked more likely with reverse. As I said though, there will be reverse before the innings is done. If these two can make it to the last hour, that's going to be when it starts to go. 11 overs left until the last hour now.

Twenty-five bottles of beer on the wall...

Can't say I really back Warne to keep out Hoggard and Harmison, even if they're not nearly as effective as Flintoff or Jones. I don't know if it's just the suspense, but it feels like England are bowling their overs very slowly...

Oh oh, Flintoff's coming on.

Can't say either. Best guess I can give is that he feels like close catchers will send Warne into his shell, and he'll block 50 or 60 balls and save the test. While, if the field is back a bit, Warne might be a little more relaxed and get out or hit one in the air or something.

Clutching at straws though... bizarre captaincy.
