whats with this ridicolous appealing by jones?
He's not appealing - he's pulling out of it.

Getting wickets on LBWs/batpads etc is as much about the authenticity of the appeal as whether it's actually out. Half going up for things and then pulling out, makes proper appeals sound much more authentic. Warne has always been the master of that. If anything the Australians have been poor in this series - 'properly' appealing for far too much, which has the opposite effect and just ****es off the umpires.

Beautiful bowling by Flintoff leading up to that dismissal but what was Katich doing playing at that?

England's seamers are really excellent at bowling to left handers - Ponting and Martyn didnt appear to be in quite as much trouble.

Grrr Giles bowls a rubbish delivery first up to Gilchrist as expected - he bowled a full toss to Katich, but obviously that doesn't matter so much now.

With the exception of his first spell in this match, Giles has been very poor. Aus need to attack him so Vaughan is forced to bowl seam at both ends and hopefully the buggers will get tired.

The key to England's success has not been so much the fact that they are producing reverse swing but the way that they are using it. It's not surprising that so many aussie batsmen are being got out in the teens/twenties because England's bowlers are working them over through periods of half an hour or longer. There's no doubt that Martyn's wicket (although unlucky) was as a result of a lengthy plan employed by Harmison (bowling wide, wide, wide .... straight inswinger). Hayden similarly and then Katich.

I guess it is a sad reflection on Jones when the fielders won't even throw to him and prefer to try the direct hit.
Vaughan probably did aim for Geraint, Vaughan either throws to the millimetre or misses by yards.

Could we get an amazing captain's knock from Punter here? Wouldn't silence the critics (and shouldn't), but it'd be a great thing for the side if he could pull it off (I'm trying to be optimistic).

I know everybody expects Gilly to go any minute, but I've seen him play good innings in dangerous circumstances (and played a fair one to save a game against NZ in Perth back in 2001). Got to somehow survive against Flintoff, though. What would we do for Steve Waugh right now?

Not only did that Gilly knock save that test, it nearly won it. Australia were chasing nigh on 500 in that game and needed 400+ to win on the final day (sound familiar?) and Gilchrist and Steve Waugh were absolutely murdering the bowling in the final session until Waugh was run out by a deflection onto the bowler's stumps, and Warne fell quickly. Gillespie and Gilchrist blocked out the draw then, with Australia about 50 short.

Steve Waugh was of course the captain then... wouldn't mind a bit of that!
