What's the weather forecast for Manchester?

There should be about 98 overs bowled today, Australia now need 399 to win, it is possible but I can't see it happening with their current form, especially as people have said if wickets fall early. I wish we could've nipped a wicket last night but we are very capable of getting all 10 today. England favourites to win, but don't forget the Australian tail has wagged a lot in this series and a draw is also quite possible. We need to keep our bowling discipline, line and length.

Right then, what's the verdict? Anyone prepared to back Australia to get the runs, or to draw?

I'm gonna go for an England win, with the King of Spain taking four wickets, Fred and the fiery Welshman to reverse it and grab the rest late on, Aus all out for 347.

Thereby keeping my 2-3 series prediction result alive!!
I'm thinking they'll get out for 250-odd around tea time, unfortunately.

With both of those fours (Ponting's and Hayden's) the batsmen didn't run. They may be playing for a draw, but that's no excuse for not running.

Brilliant captancy by Vaughan to bowl Hoggard despite him going for a few yesterday. That was a great delivery to Langer.

Seems Australia are attacking - good news for England.
Have to play their natural game - 98 overs is too many to simply block. As we've seen from Hoggards end already, you're bound to get a dodgy bounce etc on the 5th day and unless youre playing shots, youll be surrounded by catching men.

Great delivery but it appeared to be an inswinger that cut away off the pitch.

If they played sensibly, the pitch is good enough that I'd back them to get a draw - but I'll say it again, playing shots against this England attack invariably doesn't work.

You can't defend in this situation outright. As social said, Vaughan would put all the fielders around the back, bowl giles from one end all day and rotate the quicks, and every little mistake would go to hand. Australia have to play normally but cut down on the risks, and keep Vaughan on the back foot.

Either way I think they will lose, but blocking for 98 overs is impossible on a 5th day wicket.

Surely they'd be better off near the bat 8-)

Nah, they should all go around back and let Australia score freely. :p

edit: No, I don't know what this means either. No further questions.

I was thinking that Hayden looks in good touch and Ponting out of form.

Ponting then swings one into the stands and Hayden edges through slips

Wide of slips, not through slips, not a chance.

Hayden looks okay... the signs for me are his defensive stroke, and his trademark shots, being the straight drive and the pull. When Hayden gets it right he's amazingly impressive to watch, and has a real unbeatable air about him. He's got the defense right, but looks really tentative when trying to score, primarily because he's nervous and trying not to get out I assume, for both personal and team reasons.

He really just needs to bat for a significant amount of time. The rest of it will come if he manages to build an innings.
