Tresco batted well, Vaughan looks in great form.

Ponting's captaincy continues to be mystifying and the fielding is $%#@!^&*%

i.e. more of the same.

So, declaration totals? Greg Matthews is arguing on the Australian coverage for a competitive declaration with a target of 380 with the overs not an issue. Dean Jones wants 430, with 110 overs. I'd be inclined to go with Greg, as you don't want to bat a team totally out of the game unless you have ages to bowl them out. The wicket isn't that bad that a team can't defend for a day if necessary if they play well, but if Australia are set anything under 400 they will try and win it, however foolish they need to play to do it. Obviously they'll need at least 4 sessions to try that though, so if I was Vaughan I'd be aiming for around 350+ by drinks in the final session, adn an hour at Australia tonight.

Worrying signs for Australia. Lee's opening spell was terrible, don't know what he was thinking. Unless Gillespie can snap his form slump overnight, we're going to be playing with 2 bowlers.

England looking to get a move on now, Vaughan charging McGrath and Strauss looking better with every delivery.

Wicket still looks good but Aus top order has been dominated by England.

Vaughan lookslike he's trying to force the pace so I'd say 350.

Are Australia (other than Gillespie and Langer) capable of defending? It's not exactly something they have been accustomed to doing in the past.

I'll go for 380 as being plenty, 420 if I want to be really safe.

His captaincy really is shocking.

The runs through third man have won England this game and the last.
It has been. I hope those that have claimed he's the best captain going around (to be fair there weren't too many) have had their eyes opened and their glasses cleared. He's got a lot to learn. He was pretty good in SL (whilst not being as awesome as some make out, SL shot themselves in the foot on a few occasions as much as his captaincy brought Aus back in the game) but he's been awful this tour.

I think England are going to want an hour at Australia tonight. Can probably see England getting a 280 lead before really cutting loose. Hopefully some fireworks from KP & Freddie.

I think they all are, they just haven't had to do it for a while.

I'd say that's a good total, because personally I can't help but feel Australia could get it. They've shown no signs of it of course, but the talent is there and all it takes is one brilliant partnership or a big hundred from one player and you're there. England should almost certainly win from there though, which is basically what you want.

If England bat until stumps, lead by 450 and declare overnight, it vastly increases Australia's chance of surviving, especially with the threat of rain which is always there, even with a decent forecast.

Speaking of which, rain is falling now.

What's this the 36th over and Gillespie still yet to get an over? Ponting being tested here.

But it won't matter - the rain is coming.
