very interesting day at Grace road, but i wont read too much into Leicester batting performace. I remember when Australia were in the West Indies in 2003, when some Carib Berr XI made 400 odd in the 4th innings with Baugh & Deonarine hitting big hundreds. But that didn't affect them at all during the test....
Until the fourth Test, when the WI chased 400 to win...

one wonders if Rodgers double century will put him up as a possible contender for the side in the future... 8-)

Lee is a better batsman than you make him out to be though, I certainly think he's capable of being a 25+ average test player. .
lee is most certainly hit and miss. hes more darren gough than anything else.

Why not?

An attack like that (containing at least 2 of the starters next week) shouldn't concede so many runs.

Warne, Gillespie and Lee (when you take out the games where his batting and bowling had a huge novelty value against teams) average a shade over 15. McGrath averages 7, but since he's improved of late we'll round that up to 10. So at most there's a combined of average of around 60. Adding up England's 4 you get 53-54, but Giles and Hoggard have improved a great deal with the bat. So really there's not much in it.

Yes. The mighty stalwart of English cricket, Michael Roge... oh, wait...

Seriously though, I don't think it's particularly significant. The bowlers got a decent workout, the batsmen made plenty of runs, and had there been an extra day available Australia would have won at a canter. Australia's selections for the test should be clear now too... nothing to complain about really.

What's that got to do with novelty value? It's not like a big hitting tail-ender is something never seen before, he's just good at it.

It's doubtful he could have played so well then compared to what he's been like since. The batting could have been a good run, but as has been seen so far he's like a rabbit when the ball is short and he's a fairly decent batsman when it's pitched up. This suggests the bowlers didn't 'work him out' as a batsman while he was still new.

not really Ausstralia's tail has a fair edge over England
Test Batting Averages Since January 2003:

Giles 25.77
Hoggard 10.50
Jones 9.50
Harmison 13.05
Total 60.82

Warne 13.33
Lee 15.66
Gillespie 20.32
McGrath 11.36
Total 60.67

Suggests you're talking biased rubbish. Again.
