Congrats Gillespie, on getting double hundred.

But in all honesty the great West Indian team had guys like Marshall (who batted at 8 or 9) but who were good enough to make Double Hundreds against SL then (or had there been opportunity to play the likes of Bangla or Zim ), But I think those guys had a sense of (humility and ) wanting to preserve the dignity of their opposition and would sacrifice their wicket to preserve the dignity of their opponents.

This does not in any way attempt to belittle Gillespie's Double Ton.

But that was the dignified nature of the Great West Indian Team of Lloyd's , IMO.

Are you kidding? Malcolm Mashall was famous for wanting a test century more than anything... it's something he strived for his whole career. The suggestion that he'd throw it away so he didn't hurt the feelings of the opposition is utterly ridiculous.

I haven't, but I have, for example, heard Mark Nicholas talk about how much Marshall wanted a century... and they did meet, and played together at Hampshire. He compared it to Shane Warne's desire for a test century, which is of course well known.
