Using A tours to give young talented players is one thing, but we have absolutely no clue how good Boult is at this stage, because he hasn't had any proper cricket. The standard of the Emerging Players comp and U19 WC was way below even first class level, one simply can't read too much into performances at those events. Most likely he'll find the level of competition way too difficult. Besides, its not like we're running out of time with this guy, he's only just 19! Give him a season of FC cricket and see how he goes. If he sets the house on fire like Southee did last year, then by all means give him a shot on an A tour, there are usually 1 or 2 every year (one coming up against England A next Feb).I disagree.
He got picked on the back of very good performances in the Emerging Players Tournament and U19 World Cup.
Other than Franklin, he is probably the only left arm seamer in New Zealand with any chance of playing for New Zealand in the next few years..he also swings it and from what I hear has the potential to bowl 140k's+. Not too many talents like that in NZ...why shouldnt A tours be used to blood a few youngsters?

NEO Cricket is showing this live, and at least two highlights packages.Which channel is showing the game?
AWTA. The tournament was of a very high standard and if anything the NZ team were lucky to win and only did because they had a few players in very good form.Again, I disagree.
The Emerging Players Tournament was completely full of quality FC players and even some international players (Raina, Kohli, Tiwary, Gony, Tshabalala) and Boult did very well.
After that tournament the NZ Emerging Players played some matches against Queensland and Boult again bowled well.
Yeah, I personally reckon he showed us enough at the under-19 WC, no matter who the opposition were(they certainly weren't complete ****). Good action & pace and was pretty accurate, no doubt looked ready for first-class cricket at the very least, was little wonder why ND gave him a contract soon afterHe will play the whole of next season for ND, Shield and Championship matches, I think it is a good learning experience for him to be involved with established FC players already, and hopefully get to bowl to the next in line for Aus/Indian international spots. He will be a better bowler for it.
Agreed. And the coach/selectors obviously think Boult is ready for NZ A duty, and fair enough.I think everyone has to develop at their own pace, if the coaches don't think Boult's ready then he isn't. They have the best judgement and that's that.
The worst thing is that I knew that him(along with O'Brien) were only playing the "Tests"Oh by the way, Bryce - Boult wont play, he is only in the squad for the FC matches. I thought it was the other way around, but he replaces Gillespie when the FC matches start.
Yeah, I knew that too..but for some reason I got mixed up and thought Boult was playing in the One dayers, and not the FC games. The worst thing is that I knew that him(along with O'Brien) were only playing the "Tests"
A quick google search revealed this, but not entirely sure aye
