FWIW I would be looking at this side:

Trescothick
Vaughan
Butcher
Hussain
Key/Bell
Flintoff
Read
Giles
Harmison
Anderson
Hoggard

Only adding in a couple of new players, but retaining some experience in there (which is crucial)
The bowling looks very thin, otherwise this looks like the best side available. Does Read bat well? If he is replacing Stewart....

Incredibly, I'm agreeing with Marc.

Read is a competent batsman, probably just less than Jack Russell's calibre. The one thing that worries me there is the length of tail, but I'd rather see bowlers who get wickets than those who get runs.

Looking at Chris' XI
M.Trescothick
M.Vaughan
R.Key
N.Hussain
A.Stewart
C.White
J.Foster
S.Harminson
J.Anderson
C.Tremelett
M.Panesar

1) Why in God's name have you picked two keepers?
2) Stewart's almost at pension age
3) What's Butcher done to get dropped?
4) Are we trying for longest tail in test history?
5) White is not a Number Six
6) Harmison is NEVER a Number Eight
7) Panesar has very, very little experience and didn't really impress last year
8) HOGGARD?

That will do for now.

another day, another ton+ from an Aussie batsman, another 500+ score in 5 sessions, another declaration, more early wickets - another display of the Aussie battle plan!!!!

big hats off to Langer - I guess he was able to convert all those starts he had got and put together his best test score - me thinks that his personal score will be close to the English 1st innings total!!!!

Waugh falls short of his ton - maybe a sign of the outcome of his test career????

Love - a half ton on debut & undefeated......another example of this Aussie machine & why they will still be no.1 after the WC & post Waugh!!!!!!!

England - must try to avoid the follow-on. If they can do so it will be a small moral victory for them to grasp onto. There is no way that their bowling attack can bowl the Aussies out to gain a victory, so the batsmen must provide resistance to a fired up Aussie attack that will be off the leash!!!!!

Me thinks there are better odds for me to win the big lottery tonight!!!!

:)

I agree, I suppose of those 3 Hoggard would be 9, and Anderson 10 then Harmison 11.

Of course, if Jones were fit, he'd be at 9, and it'd be a bit more robust.

England are 123-6 , a follow on is certain.

Very poor performance by the Englishmen, it seems to me that they are getting worse with each test match!

Let's hope the Indian team doesn't get any lower as well, or Bangladesh might give them a run for their money!

And this when English criccketers are being taken to the cleaners:lol:   .

Forget Bang, even Namibia can give England a real hard time.
But then England have spinners like Dawson:P , so maybe they aren't that awful!

For the record I think Dawson is crap.

Also, why do you seem to think we all think players like Dawson are great? If you had a reason then it would help, rather than just picking out random players.

England is against a very very strong team, and they have additional problem of countless injuries. With a full fledge squad and against a different opponet, England would have been faring much better!

Unfortunatly this is Test Cricket so everyone has to play Australia who are very very strong indeed. But things should even out when some of the stars of the team retire, although there will be players like Love and Bracken to replace them. I think England would have done a lot better with a full strength team, but that's life, we would probably have still lost with a full strength team, but some of the Cricket has been pittiful due to some of the players showing they are totally out of their depth. But to be fair no other team in the world could resist this Australian Team. If you look at how Pakistan were destroyed by Australia then you will understand what happens when Australia come across an understrength team. Also, if your team has just been bowled out for just over 100 by the 2nd worst Test Playing ODI Team, then I would seriously think about claiming another team who is understrength and playing against the best team in the world, is an embarrisment.

Yes it must be tuff, it would be tuff for any side's skipper whose team is taking on Australia in Australia and especially when his top 4-5 bowlers are down with injuries!

Maybe Batty would have been a better bet:lol:  , the fatty batty is atleast handy with the bat, so what if he can't get spin much from the ball, none of the English spinner can get it!!

The match is not over, White is leading the fightback and is doing extremely well with his personal score of 57!! The lad has shown everyone what is this team capable of.
England in White has an allrounder that Aussies can only dream of!

England are 76-1 in the second inning after getting bowled out for 270 in the first innings and forced to follow on. Only a miracle can save England now, a 4-0 to Aus is almost certain!

Now its the turn of White to get injured. Now who's going to pick wickets for them in fifth test :O

That'll be because with each match we lose more and more players through injury - now White's gone as well.

And yet again I state we are not as bad you lot make out, it's just our turn to face Australia and it has coincided with a terrible run of injuries (surely it's gone past the NZ run now)

At the same time, remind us again when India last won a series outside Asia, I believe some of the forum weren't even born!

England have a problem with spinners, but then again India have a problem with seamers.

Since in most conditions you need an attack with 3 or 4 seamers and 1 spinner I'd say India's bowling problems are a lot worse than England's

For the record, our number one spinner, who was just beginning to look the part, is injured.
