Aus A are 166/7 now from 44 overs. The new bowling attack is really working for them in this game. Nice to see Kirtley bowling well.

yet again England has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory - for once I thought their bowling & fielding had done a good job, only to be let down by the batsmen!!!!

Irani has impressed in the 2 matches so far both with bat & ball. IMO he is the sort of player that the Aussies are missing in both the Test & ODI sides, and the sort of player Harvey should have been......perhaps Irani should be looked at as some 'new blood' to be introduced into their Test side!!!!

Stewart is so far out of form that he must either bat near the top to play into form, or drop him from the team...

Nassar wasn't too quick scoring runs either - thanks to some good bowling by Blewett & then both Hogg & Simmonds.

Clarke is having one of those 'golden summers' and will be unlucky not to make the squad at some stage this series....

I was also impressed with the abilities shown by Hussey to get Aus A up over the 200 mark - another psychological blow to the English team as the A side shouldn't have got close to that score.....

The next question is who is going to be the Aussie's 2nd spinner for the Test at Sydney with the amount of turn the 'part timers' got?????

:)

Yeah but didn't he bat somewhere stupid today of about 8 - 9 ... didn't have much chance scoring runs with the tail.

Also you have to remember that Stewart is a OD opener... and it's an extermly tough game to prepare for a game when you don't know where you will bat.. and if you will be coming in to just tick the board over or have to hit out at everything.

Don't understand the logic of opening with White - would've put him in with Knight at the start...

Interestingly I believe Nasser has relinquished the number 3 slot!

Marc I don't think you need to read to much into some of the decions that have been made... White opening was probley just to see if he could be promoted up the order in search of quick runs if and when needed.

problem with Stewart's batting Rich was that he neither ticked the scoreboard over nor hit out at everything - it took something like 18 deliveries b4 he got off the mark!!!!!

I do agree that batting him down that low is a waste of time - but the lack of touch he showed suggests that him batting in the OD side is a waste of time full stop. Either open with him to allow him to get his touch back by playing an anchor role thru' the innings, or replace him!!!!

Opening in County Cricket is totally different to opening in International cricket.

Obviously Craig White opens for Yorkshire & usually bats above 5 most of the time. But its obvious in international cricket that he's close to being a #7, 8 or 9 batsman.

I know that, I'm just saying that they are examining their option is the event of loss of form or (the unlikely) injuy:rolleyes:
I do however agree that if Stewart is playing he should play up the order, but if he opens, where will Knight go?

well bat him at 1st drop then - the opening partnership has been getting broken early enough so it will still give him plenty of time at the crease

no seriously he looks like he needs plenty of overs to get back in touch - I wouldn't even be worried about his strike rate or score so long as he managed to rotate the strike & hold up one end!!!!!

Which is exactly the role Nasser's taken on in the team, and look how much stick he gets for it!

I think the point with Stewart is that he is pretty much certain to play throughout. If you look at the guys above him they were just looking at the alternatives - White as a pinch hitter, Irani, Shah, Key, Blackwell, Flintoff. He will bat at about 6 or 7 at worst in the VB series.

To be honest if a bowling attack like that can keep Australia A down to 200 they're not as good as everyone makes them out to be.
