whats wrong with bouncing Tudor? He is a decent bat, and not a techniqueless tailender, and if he is too soft to face bouncers he should not be playing international cricket. This sort of a thing is a professional hazard and if he cant take it then he is in the wrong profession.

Australia have figured out England a bit tooo well I guess. They are batting aggressively for whole days and attacking with the bowl with abandon. The weaknesses have been brought to the fore mercilessly in first three.

Who says he's a decent bat? Certainly hasn't done anything to show that recently. My point is, what was the point when one good delivery on the stumps would have got him anyway?

You cant blame Lee (after all he's a fast bowler), its just that another player with retired hurt written in front frustrates English fans.

Tudor has an average of close to 20, and in just 10 matches he played that one brilliant innings of 99, so this is decent enough.

I think if fast bowlers need to restrain themselves it should only be against people like Caddick or McGrath who are pure tailenders, and there is no threat that they will do any damage. But even that is questionable.

As for 'not having done much lately', M Waugh had not done much lately as well so should fast bowlers have avoided bowling him bouncers as well? Thats ridiculous.

But Waugh's done it in the past, Tudor's living off that one innings!

130 runs in his other 15 innings - not great by a long chalk, and makes the pre-Lords AA look almost Bradmanesque!

I didn't mind Tudor being bounced, it's a pretty stupid tactic but it's not unsportsmanlike... Brett Lee just gets a bit carried away.
I just think that it was very bad taste bowling a bouncer two balls later- and this time at Harmison- a real tailender.

Didn't Tudor & Harmison bounce Lee when he was batting?

I guess Lee was just saying, "anything you can do, I can do better" lol

I just don't know why Lee felt like he had to apologise to fans after he bowled an excellent delivery.

Yea I understand why he was bowling bouncers at them, a bit of revenge...
but come on... second ball after a guy has been stretchered off the field because he was hit by one...

Third Test critique

Australia

Langer - another failure when just about everyone else is going to town. Becoming a worry, in a losing side he'd be on the ropes.

Hayden - modest game coming back from surgery.

Ponting - showed his class again before White got a good one past him.

Martyn - batted OK with patience and restraint. The English need to bowl the consistent line to him that eventually got him out.

Waugh - best innings so far. The ball Tudor got him with was excellent. Captaincy again top draw.

Lehmann - needs a big score, will probably survive the series but will ne looking over his shoulder.

Gilchrist - aggressive but should've gone straight off. Tudor would not have reacted the way he did if he thought he touched the rope.

Warne - batted well, bowled OK on a pitch that didn't suit him. Catching was bad but I've never been a fan of him at 1st slip. Has had Gilchrist and Waugh diving in front of him most of the time.

Lee - fast but not as fast as I thought he would be. Aggressive, didn't mind him hitting Tudor as he can bat a bit but disagreed with him bowling short to Harmison who definitely can't bat.

Gillespie - I'd love a dollar for every catch dropped off him.

McGrath - true professional, only Aussie batsman to get under 19 but he was unbeaten.

ENgland

Trescothick - mentally shot, needs the one dayers to clear his head, have come at the right time.

Vaughan - classy again, silly run out in the 2nd innings when there was never 2 there.

Butcher - also metally shot, also a silly run out but got a good one from McGrath.

Hussain - good 2nd innings, definitely wasn't out. Captaincy was appalling in this test. You can't expect your bowlers to bowl to a plan when the captain cahnges the field for just about every ball. Needs to keep things simple and get back to basics.

Key - showed great fight again. The sort of guy you want in your team though shouldn't have got out to a meek off cutter from a part timer.

Stewart - good 2nd innings, took the attack up and rode his luck, keeping was better this game.

White - still not a good enough batsman to come in at 7 but has bowled well most of this test. He got smacked around a bit but got wickets.

Tudor - bowled well at times, took a grat catch on the boundary to get rid of Gilchrist. Ducked into a bouncer that wasn't that short from Lee showing bad technique. Unfortunate to get stretchered off but it looked symbollic of the English side in general.

Dawson - why was he picked at all. I know the pitch didn't suit but wasn't given a chance to try and hold down an end allowing a weakened pace attack to come down the wind.

Harmison - showed good metal strength by coming back well after suffering the yips in the morning session. A lesser man wouldn't have bowled again in the innings. Bowled without luck, wasn't hit around like the others.

Silverwood - was he fit enough to come out. Had a bad ankle in England and has broken down with the same problem. Four overs for the tour. Just shows the problems that England has with its management.

Again England outclassed, too much pressure that too few could handle. The one dayers have come at a good time so they can regroup. Flintoff will be able to regain his fitness better in one day games than 5.

Australia played well again, what can I say. Wouldn't have beaten anyone let alone a weakened England.

Silverwood actually said that he had already recovered from his previous ankle injury and this was a new one. Most cricketers tend not to lie about their injuries...

re: Fast bowler's code.

The fast bowler's union hasn't been in effect for decades. It was ruthlessly tossed aside as an gentlemanly-like anachronism by the West Indies teams of the 70's in conjunction with the Australian team of the time.

Personally, I never understood the point of bouncing someone who can't bat. A yorker to knock their poles over is more effective.

However, Brett Lee was bounced quite relentlessly by Tudor and Harmison when Lee batted so it's not surprising he reciprocated. It's a little predictable but understandable.

Now, onto The Argonaut's thoughts:

Langer - another failure when just about everyone else is going to town. Becoming a worry, in a losing side he'd be on the ropes.
Bit harsh there. He's quite obviously batting very well but he's not converting his starts. He got a couple of really good balls in Brisbane, batted well in Adelaide and ran himself out in Perth. He just needs a decent start and he'll be fine I reckon. I don't think his place is really under threat.

Warne - batted well, bowled OK on a pitch that didn't suit him. Catching was bad but I've never been a fan of him at 1st slip. Has had Gilchrist and Waugh diving in front of him most of the time.
Agreed there. He shouldn't be a first-slip. The only other candidate I can think of would be Damien Martyn.

Gillespie - I'd love a dollar for every catch dropped off him.
Yet another game where he bowls brilliantly for little reward. He's got to have some luck sooner or later!

Harmison - showed good metal strength by coming back well after suffering the yips in the morning session. A lesser man wouldn't have bowled again in the innings. Bowled without luck, wasn't hit around like the others.
Yep, good on him for just keeping running in. Could be quite a good bowler, I reckon. At that level, you'd expect your run-up to be the least of your worries but sometimes it happens. As I said, he kept trying so I have to give him credit for that. What astounded me was that when he stuttered and then ran in, he stalled bowled 140km/h+. Effectively, he was bowling of about a thrre metre run-up. I was just waiting for him to get his run-up right and unleash the next one at 175km/h!!

Interesting how bowling short ones at useless batsmen in a dead match in a dead series is fine, but it's totally wrong to bowl short at the best in the world in a very live series is alright.

I remember when Brett Lee attacked Shane Bond at Perth. He bowled a couple of quick deliveries after Bond had hit him for a couple of fours.

And when Lee finally got Bond, Lee gave him a serving but I don't really think it meant much to Bond..they probably had a beer afterwards.

Yeah I heard Lee say in an interviewtoday that he and Tudor had a beer after the match.

Only problem with Brett Lee in my opinion is once he getts carried away to whoever it is hes bowling to he is unable to correct his length and settle down afterwards.

He often bowls a butifull first spell has no luck then getts hit for a few boundrys and after that he getts carried away.

I find if Brett Lee is taking wickts he never goes over the top.
