So not much riding on this game...

If Australia win it gives them the BG Trophy and locks them into the WTC final

If India win they retain the BG Trophy and keep their WTC final hopes alive (Aus has to win 1 of 2 tests vs SL to get in)

As ever take these articles (this one comes originally from The Indian Express I believe which I think has a patchy reputation?) with a bucket of salt but uhhh this does not paint a pretty picture

“Bahut ho gaya (I’ve had enough),” the former India opener is reported to have said.

The Express added that Gambhir went on to tell the players that some of them were doing their own thing in the name of the “natural game”, instead of playing shots based on the situation.

With that in mind, Gambhir made it clear that would no longer be acceptable under him, telling the squad that while he had let them do what they wanted for the “last six months” he would now “decide” how they would play.
Gautam "Justin Langer" Gambhir.

A senior player, meanwhile, is even said to have been promoting himself as ‘Mr Fix-It’, having grown sceptical of the younger players’ ability to provide necessary leadership.
This is also quite bad.

Heh this is the same comparison I’ve been making. Same breed of ****wit gnome imo.

Langers approach arguably worked for a short while though so maybe this will too. Hopefully we kick him out at the right time.

Sports writers indulging their internal fiction authors is not new with Indian cricket. I do think Gambhir maybe looking to leave more of his imprint on the side going forward but that entire article is just bollywood bollocks.

I do think the senior players/young players divide has a little bit of legs though; Rohit kind of brought it up himself in the press conference (which was utterly bizarre when you think of who has actually been doing the heavy lifting for India in that batting order)

I dont think divide is a thing tbh. At best, there maybe growing resentment at Rohit and Virat not pulling their weight but I really dont see much beyond that. In a way, if there was an actual divide, it might make it easier for Gambhir to get Ro Ko out. Sadly, that is not the case here.

Division in the camp may or may not be correct but I think Rohit and Kohli have lost dressing room respect in the last 6 months . And this doesn’t help a team when juniors don’t respect the judgement of senior players .

yeah look i really don’t generally like stifling creativity of your players - i mean the whole real bazball ethos is investing the trust and confidence in your guys to be themselves - but some of those get out shots were just so rancid; that you’ve got to step in at some point. pant went in such a clowny way both innings, kohli’s shot was also mud and irresponsible lol

generally coaches of an international team don’t necessarily have to be x’s and o’s geniuses, when you’ve got a room of guys who don’t need that and it’s your job as the head honcho to manage personalities and get everyone humming. but it was so listless tactically, some o what’s going on with team india at the moment that fair enough he feels a need to step in
