People are kidding themselves if they think that current performance ranks more highly than popularity in the eyes of administrators

I guarantee you that CA & broadcasters will be happier with the tv ratings & match attendance than the actual result as both were records

Thank **** for that.

Seems Starc is (at least for now) in. Tough to call, I agree there's a risk he's really not right but the other alternatives also worry me for different reasons. He did at least bowl really well in the second dig here.

Damn what a journey. Joins Neser and Boland as recent guys to have 10+ years of FC cricket before debuting in Tests for Australia and has completely transformed his role too.

Another bloke born in December. You know I wouldn't mind persisting with Marsh if he was fit enough to bowl. Given the short turnaround between tests and the ? over Starc, I guess the selectors want someone who can bowl overs and that's what tipped it in his favour.

Wonder if he'll bat six or seven?

Good to see Australia continues to ignore the players in their 20's and selects a 31 year old debutant

...talk about a lost generation 😆

Mitch Marsh test career officially over. Starc fully fit

He'll bat 6. Webster's been the most inform shield batsmen over the past 2 and a bit years and did well vs India-A.

Nether of which are actually true. Starc will go into the Test managing a minor rib/back injury while Marsh will likely make the tour squad to Sri Lanka after making a random 50 in the BBL

Right call imo, if arguably at least a Test too late. Looking forward to seeing Webster's batting in particular. His bowling I'm somewhat less enthused about, but I would back him to at least bowl a fair few overs more than Marsh has been able to offer

no way. Marsh wont make the squad to SL , as there must be room for the likes of Kuhnemann, Murphy and possibly Glenn Maxwell and a backup keeper - Jimmy Peirson as Inglis is likely out of the SL tour, as well as a backup seamer like Abbott. and Handscomb the specialist subcontinent batter. They wont waste Jhye on a SL tour.

SL pitches are spin. Beau webster bowls off spin as well as medium pace, so will be straight in to the XI. Murphy and Kuhnemann go straight into the XI , with Starc the sole fast bowler. Cummins is out- birth of child.

XI as follows

Head (may be head for opener in subcontinent - same as india)
Khawaja
Labuschagne
Smith (C)
Handscomb
Webster
Carey
Starc
Murphy
Lyon
Kuhnemann.

I will be surprised if Starc tours
