**Official** 5th Test at Sydney, 3-7 Jan 2025

Whatever it takes!!!
How is that hard to follow?

He won't need resting later in the series if he hasn't spent so much time early in the series keeping.
He is not gonna play as a pure batter. I feel it will be a burden for him to bat this style if he did not have another string to his bow and that is his keeping. I was never one for playing 2 keepers in the side, even on the off chance that Jurel was batting better than some of the batters. For me, I would have rested Pant for one of the tests between 3 and 4 and got Jurel in as it was clear he needed a break.

Reality is he is always gonna play as the keeper/bat and given that, it would have made far more sense to manage his workload during one of the middle tests.

Also wtf happened to kohli

It's not like he has slowed down either and still looks fantastic in short form cricket. Was averaging 60 something for 4 years while making doubles for fun and all of a sudden decided to be ****. I know Smith has dropped off too but he is still averaging in the mid 40s for the past 4 years or so.

The drop off coincided with fatherhood and age. The skill required for limited overs is much less than tests- guys like Marsh are great in odi but hacks in tests for example

Odi the ball doesn't move much, pitches are flatter as it's a day 1 pitch.

The worst part is it is just one weakness that has led him down this road. Basically, he sacrificed his back foot game to be able to counter swing after the 2014 series in England and has become a very front foot based player which means the drive is an important scoring option for him. He has no other ways to deal with short of length and good length balls outside off because of his press forward and seems to have had his rhythm messed up with the covid break and has simply been nicking off all the time ever since.

2023 seemed like we are getting the old Virat back but it has been a bit of a mirage. But look, sometimes you are also a bit unlucky. His first nick went to hand today. Sometimes its that luck when your first nick either goes to no man's land or flies over the slips or the fielder drops it, that can get an innings going. He was definitely tighter with his game today and in the first innings in melbourne but his own poor judgements and a bit of bad luck (nick going to hand the first time) cost him. Either way, I dont think he has anything left as a test cricketer and the kindest thing would be to move on from him, for now.

If India lose this test his test career is 100% finished. As is Rohits.

India, the largest country in the world is full of batting prodigies

Ranjan Paul and Sudharshan for example more young guys need to be tried.

Heaps of this is just pants on fire level of lies.

You actively posted your side before the first Test, and it included Jurel as a specialist batsman but Pant batting ahead of him and keeping.

I wonder if this side will work out for us -

Jaiswal
Rahul
Washy
Virat
Pant (wk)
Jurel

Jaddu
Nitish
Harshit
Akashdeep
Bumrah
If you thought batting 5 and keeping for five Tests might be too high of a workload for Pant then you could have just suggested he bat lower down or not keep, considering you had a much better keeper than him in the team batting lower than him.

But it gets even better, because you thought Jurel was going to be your leading run scorer in the series!

Winning team and final series score: Aus 5-0
Top run scorer - both teams (1 point): Smith
Top run scorer - Australia (1 point): Smith
Top run scorer - India (1 point): Jurel
Top wicket taker - both teams (1 point): Cummins
Top wicket taker - Australia (1 point): Cummins
Top wicket taker - India (1 point): Bumrah
Player of the series (1 point): Smith
Most series catches (non-keeper) (1 point): Smith
So you clearly wanted to play both, clearly wanted Pant to keep, and clearly weren't worried about his workload until his form was sketchy and you saw it as an excuse.

The pitch will probably deteriorate further. Batting last will be tough.
