As good as Smith is as a slipper, he seems to drop easy ones regularly. I never saw that with Mark Taylor or Mark Waugh. They were both very good slip fieldsman but also consistent in their craft too.

Yes they were much better than him. It doesn't mean the spacing was necessarily too close. If anything the fact that they were better meant they could stand further apart.

He was fine yesterday. Bowled his fastest spell of the summer. Today was absolute junk though.

edit: I reckon they thought Boland being in and relatively fresh meant they didn’t need to rest him. Agree he should have been left out overall.

I never rated him as a cricketer. The late Warne was right in his criticism of him. Overseas eg in India hes completely poor. And like the other Mitch Johnson, he costs test matches with expensive bowling.

He just played 4.5 Tests and picked up 1/3 of all wickets available. A back spasm isn't a broken spine, let's wait before calling him injury-prone.

I would blame on shami missing and rohit dumb captaincy. Hope selectors understand and prepare more good bowlers
