**Official** 4th Test at Melbourne, 26-30 Dec 2024

That's just standard shot selection which goes for any shot in the book. The idea that one particular shot has to be singled out as against the spirit of Test batting is silly. He played a shot that wasn't suited to the field, no more than a guy caught hooking does yet no one calls them ruining the game for some so this shot being singled out just doesn't stack up IMO
Oh there's no rubbish to be spoken about the spirit of Test batting, so that rings 100%. The reverse sweep is now a commonly accepted shot, whereas Mike Gatting playing it in the 87 World Cup final was lucky to get off the plane at Heathrow.

If any criticism comes, as I can speak for myself, it's low percentage shots that are played to be clever. From the time Joe Root, the best player in the world, started playing it I said it was the biggest deadshit shot in the game. He could hit it anywhere else. His was more about 'intent' and changing the game than it was about changing fields or good judgement on hitting in areas. To a length ball, on the stumps, it's career suicide.

England for once must be thinking they’re in with a chance this Ashes. We’ve been garbage but still somehow not completely out of it. They obviously don’t have Bumrah though.

They're 183 runs ahead, and India is batting last. Batting looks the easiest today, and Aus will spend a lot of it batting. India could make another 100 and would probably still lose
It's gloomy af. Get the lead to low 100s and then Bumrah run through them

They've been terrible at bowling out tails in clutch games for a while now

Big shout out to Mitch Marsh for contributing 3 of the 88 overs bowled in his all-rounder role
He's ready to bowl as much as they like. He keeps repeating it.

What's left out of that is that the standard of what he's bowling makes him barely more useful than Marnus's meme bouncers, so "as much as they like" is a limit approaching 0.

That and mental factors I think might play a factor, India seem to always find a way against us, England seem to fold whenever they come here.

Though yes, their new approach might change things.

I think this series shows just how much you need to be switched on from Day 1, since Perth Australia have dominated 95% of the series but still haven't got a clear advantage in the series.

Always stuns me how keepers stand up to someone bowling 130. Anyone who’s stood up to the stumps will know just how insanely hard it is.

Yeah but I'm starting to get MCG 2008 vibes. SA were ridiculously far behind like 300 with 7 down. And then that Steyn/Duminy partnership. I mean if those 2 could make big runs of all people

A man who is fine to bowl doesn't just bowl 3 overs in 90. He does a Ben Stokes and bowls 15 overs in 50 and blows his hamstring for his team. But yeah I'm surprised Head or Marnus haven't had the ball more all series just to mess around with things.

Pat may be willing to experiment with renewable energy, but not so much with his bowling changes and rotation.
