Oh absolutely, but they should be shaped using rule changes (which I think should be considered) rather than umpires just randomly winging it

We used to have an umpire who just didn’t believe in the lbw law, and openly said so. Literally just refused to give them. Ever. It was mental. Lovely old bloke and everyone just accepted that was Reg and you played on. No one ever blew up because he was the same for everyone.

In hindsight it was hilarious, primarily because I used to open the batting

DRS's greatest contribution - apart from getting more decision right obviously - is how much it's exposed a lot of previously feted umpires and umpiring practices as being far more interested in shaping preferred playstyles rather than actually enforcing the laws of the game

If English umpires had interpreted the 1935 rules correctly, we might never have ended up with two behind square rule. They refused to give out anyone padding up on the front foot, so bowlers reverted to leg theory like they did pre-1935 (the whole idea of the change being to encourage batsmen to use their bat to anything pitching outside off). It showed the batsman-centric nature of the game that bowlers nearly universally copped the blame for this.

Only 7 or 8 boundaries in 40 overs of bowling shows we have been pretty relentless as a bowling unit. But I guess post lunch Jadeja will have to bowl one end if Siraj is not gonna be able to bowl. And NKR has to bowl a lot more.

He's historically been weaker to bowling over the wicket than around. Only this year with bowlers targeting the stumps with the ball coming into him has he been weaker to bowling around the wicket.
