I think Ganguly hit 4 boundaries in the next two overs, so if it was a deliberate tactic, it was a case of 10/10 for effort but 0/10 for execution.

After two days i would say england has squandered a few chances with some screwups by hussain.

My impression abt hussain has gone down a lot with his rigid tactics in this test.Looks like i overestimated him.

Sehwag has to go a long long way despite the century. Loose techique it seems. But his temperament is excellent. Some thing i noted before. His rare ability to totally ignore the previous ball and continue...and his curbing of his attacking instincts..are good indicators.Still early days.

Hoggy is quite a nice bowler. Good use of conditions.

And looks like lots of trolls have come out and are posting crap all over..hmm

Im willing to put a strong bet on that this will be the last series that Cork & White will play in unless they suddenly realise that the ball is meant to be bowled at the wickets.

I'd like to know on what basis commentators placed their "this wicket isn't good for batsmen" comment on?

Vaughan certainly seems to like it at the moment!

Oh, and another question. Is Harbajan now to be considered the world's 2nd best all rounder (after Agarkar of course!) folowing his knock today?

At this point, England are in a position to build up a substantial lead in this test and put some pressure on India batting second, if weather permits, of course. The way, the Indians have bowled so far, an Indian win is pretty much off the cards. A draw seems the most likely scenario. It's just that like they are masters at "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory", Indians are also good at "snatching defeat from the jaws of a fairly simple draw". So, anything can happen.

Day 3 match report filed - see front page.

I wrote it in the TBI (Trent Bridge Inn)whilst drinking a couple of pints of bitter - hope there's no t too many shpelling mishtakes :D

I can choose my days to go to test matches, eh? I left home at 10.20 and it was horrible - cloudy, raining. When I got to Nottingham, it looked as though there'd hardly been a drop of rain, and I was most surprised to find that play had started on time (an Indian guy called Ramesh told me about the first 20 minutes, and I said I'd give him a mention).

The same one where Hoggard was bowling on middle to leg and the ball ending up being taken at about 1st slip :P

Oh another reason was because the pitch was quite dry and braking up a lot on top, which was going to aid Singh

Anyway just saying what I heard, but Vaughan innings was a piece of super batting and a joy to watch, Just a pitty Key was so unlucky he was going well :(

Today is IMO England's best effort of the summer. A difficult pitch to bat on, and they rattle along at 4 an over all day!

If Freddie and the Gaffer and have an hour or so tomorrow a win is a distinct possibility!

Im afraid that with this bowling attack, India will be chasing scores of 300+ in the World Cup far too many times for them to win successively.

Yeah you're right there Tim. None of the quicks have looked at all convincing, but this test's finely poised and anything could come of it yet. With a long hot sunny Sunday (and quote me on that), it's still anyone's.

ODI is a totally different game, and its difficult to predict on the basis of a bowler's performance in tests how he would perform in ODI.

Well if England want to make anything of this test they cant afford to slow down their scoring, get the lead to somewhere 150-200 (am i dreaming?)
Bottom line : england should be in a position to put india in as soon as possible.
As for the Indians they have to get rid of the two batsmen presently at the crease or else it could prove to be difficult.

I think that you've all got it about right.

The Indian seam attack, while it has its moments, is not particularly potent. England batted particularly well (Vaughan's knock ranks extremely highly, as to produce the innings of your life in a test match takes 2 things - class and character.

I still think the draw is the likely result, but only by a whisker now. First hour this morning should set the trend.

If Grandad (:D) and Freddie get going, then if Chalkie and Hopalong Corky can get their fingers out and contribute some runs, a England win could be a real possibility.

Where do India go from here?

They play to their strengths - 2 spinners, irrespective of pitch conditions for a start. I think that Tendulkar is underused and underrated too in test cricket.

Plus point for the Indians so far in the field - Parthiv Patel looks very neat behind the timber. I have never seen one so young with such ability.

That was a fabulous over.

Enter Corky and Chalky.

It'll be rapid and rumbustious from now on.

(or maybe short and sweet).

England: 544/8 in 127.2 overs

Run rate: 4.27

Batsmen: C White - 54 M Hoggard - 13

Though this must be very frustrating for the indian fans, every english batsmen seems to have a liking for their attack.
But the match is poised, if england can post blast away in the time before tea, that would be a perfect time for a declaration.

Now we're 612-9. Chalky's just put Harbhajan into the second tier of the Radcliffe Road stand. And him and Hoggy put on 100 for the 9th wicket.

Oh, how I wish our bowlers were as talented as India's.

lol, we'd have to play out under 9 team for our seamers to be as bad as India's :D
