Yes, but it came as a surprise to many that White got the nod at Lords.

The England selectors have still got this thing about Corky and Lords - he's always in the reckoning for matches there, and then disappears from their thoughts by the time the third test comes along.

As for Trent Bridge - well, earlier on this season Corky took 9 wickets in the match against Notts.

If the weather forecast is anything to go by, cloud and a splash is never going to be too far away. Now the best 'English conditions' bowler by a mile on current form is Corky. He would obviously get my vote, but I would play White as well and go in without a full-time spinner (sorry, Ashley).

Mate I couldn't agree more, the only thing Giles does is bowl a foot outside leg stump, it's only a matter of time until the batsman go after it. He isn't a big spinner of the ball and if we went in with a full seam attack then if it got really bad we can always bowl either Michael Vaughan or Robert Key or if it got really really bad I've even seen N.Hussian turn his arm over!

Err.....Whatever happened to Salisbury ?(he was being hailed as the next abdul qadir after his debut!!), but he seemed to be better than just a run of the mill leg spinner, and he did spin the ball quite a lot

Yup.

Glug glug glug.

The sound of former 'great hopes of English cricket' sinking without trace.

Salisbury will never trouble a quality batsman because his arm action is so low, making his variations easy to read, and his leg break less effective.

I agree with that, but if you look at English spinners who else do we have!

I got Key into the England squad now lets have M.Patel, now theres a quality spinner :D

Key is well-deserving of his place, but come on Rich - don't claim all the credit.

Ed did his bit too.

Can a furthur depleted English team hold on to their lead in the series or increase it?

How will the newcomers Key and Harmison fare?

Can the English attack maintain their disciplined line and length bowling?

Will India bounce back with a better performance and level the series or atleast dominate the match?

Will Tendulkar return to form and score a century?

Will the Indian bowling finally show some teeth?

Will the balding of the pitch affect the result of this match?

Guys, your views on these questions.

Q. Can a furthur depleted English team hold on to their lead in the series or increase it?

A. I feel that the team has't changed a big deal G.Thorpe don't get me wrong his a world class player but he did only contribute 20 or so runs in the last test, and I feel R.Key can better that, And Harmison and Jones are very simalar players in all respects same pace, both quite tall however batting I would give to Jones

Q. How will the newcomers Key and Harmison fare?

A. Key - I can't see why he can't fit in, has been performing well for nearly three seasons and he did ok when India played a tour match against his county (Kent) all be it in a 1 day match

Harmison - Like I said above he and Jones are like for like and Jones did well so I can't see why Harmison wont

Q. Can the English attack maintain their disciplined line and length bowling?

A. Well with England anything can happen, but they have improved recently, but in my opinion they still bowl too short at times

Q. Will India bounce back with a better performance and level the series or atleast dominate the match?

A. Well you guys have major talent in your side you just need to get a few of them playing near their best and you will be trouble for any team, It will come down to how well you bowl IMO

Q. Will Tendulkar return to form and score a century?

A. Lets give the guy a brake here, from a English point of view I really hope he fails, but lets no go hope that he gets a century just some form and some runs under his belt to boost his confidence is all he needs.

Q. Will the Indian bowling finally show some teeth?

A. Like England's bowlers, your either hit or miss

Q. Will the balding of the pitch affect the result of this match?

Well I heard that Hussian feels very unsure about what the pitch will do, he said that it sounds hollow and could offer bounce and swing or it looks at though it could turn as well, after the 1st day's play we will have a better idea

It looks like Sachin "Save us from Capitulation" is going to have to do the job on a pitch that they really should relish batting on.

So far so good, even though Sachin left early, the innings doesn't look like folding up atleast for now. Sehwag is going great guns. Hope he continues in the same vein till the end of the day.

Score 173-3 in 57 overs
Sehwag 105*, Ganguly 17*

Hoggard 2-38

I probably should stop making these optimistic predictions where India is concerned. Sehwag gone for 106...and I'm sure more excitement to come before the day is done.

Sehwag is gone but not before giving Poms a hamerring and teaching Eng a cricket leason.India are firmly placed at 200+/4.If Ganguly and Laxman bats sensibly and Ajit shows his majic touch, a score of 400+ is on the card. Then it will be upto our bowlers, with Bhajji back into the team, India is gonna go after the brits!

It's 'England', not 'Poms' or 'Brits'.

But you are quite correct in saying that India are well-placed in this game, and that Sehwag's innings was a pleasure to watch.

Hope you think the day 1 match report is fair.
