Macewell definitely a welcome option in a tricky batting position for us, just please stop bowling him 10 overs. Please. He's a batsman, let him bat.

Sodhi almost runs in like a medium pacer. Bit odd. Time will tell if it works.

Guptill looked....not good tbh. Despite taking advantage of short boundaries and a less powerful attack than some he still struggled. Phillips had a fend at some really wide stuff too which he should not be doing now tbh. Tickner wasn't great either, grunting in effort to send it down short and wide at 138kph. Despite the jailbreak there are a lot of things to work on for the team.

Lol at Campher getting out of there with Ireland's best figures. I didn't see the end of the game but he was by far their least reliable bowler, golden arm aside. McBrine had a strong game. Their spin options shape them up well for the World Cup, but despite scoring 300 they still feel light on batting. If Dockrell isn't going to bowl then sub him for a specialist batsman maybe? McBrine and Singh seem reliable.
Campher bowled out white macwell was building a partnership with sodhi, couldn't target him too hard.

It's clearly worked for Allen at every other level, but there's not anyone successful in world cricket whose approach to biffing is so indiscriminate. Wait, I just remembered Colin De Grandhomme exists... ok one other, but he bowls, and does occasionally surprise with a different approach. Allen needs an approach that extends beyond Just Have A Hoick. I'm sure our coaches will be able to shape him into the batsman he should become .

Young has been successful in Bangladesh T20s and India iirc with using his feet and being proactive. Haven't seen his dismissal yet but imo he should keep doing that, and getting feet moving may push him into some form. Agree that at the moment, he just finds ways to get out.

Nicholls only ODI role imo should be as a stopgap opener again if we don't have any better options.
Nah CdG is waaaay more selective with his attacking shots than Allen. Against pace I’d say he’s generally a good judge of which balls to hit in all formats.

Who do we think Santner will replace for the next match? i feel like they'll probably swap Tickner with him.

I think we'll want to retain 3 pace options. Might drop Sodhi or rotate out one of Phillips/Macewell (bearing in mind NZ think Macewell is a specialist spinner option).

But then we'd only have 2 seamers (Henry and Ferguson) plus 4 spin options (Santner, Sodhi, Bracewell, and Phillips). If you look at our CWC attack in England 2019 (similar conditions to Ireland) we had FIVE seamers (Henry, Boult, Ferguson, CDG, and Neesham) plus one spinner in Santner.

I'd replace Sodhi with Santner and give one or both of Duffy and Milne a game instead of Tickner (and possibly rotate Ferguson or Henry).

You have to remember we haven't had many logical team selections of late. I imagine they'll want Santner to get some game time since he's captaining the T20s. They might replace Sodhi, or Phillips, if they don't want to replace a seamer.

Imo from the squad available I'd be interested to see Ferguson, Duffy, Tickner, Sodhi and Santner a the main 5 for this next game, with Henry coming back in the 3rd match as well as Milne if he's fit, at the expense of Duffy and Ferguson (everyone gets a couple games I guess).

Are you kidding? You'll drop the guy that won the previous game for you? Bracewell won't be dropped/rested till he retires  I do feel he must have a picture of the coach or selector in a compromised position to have played 2 test matches:laugh: Felt the same about his one day cricket looking at his stats, he has played over 110+ games, averaged below par 32 and had only 2 100s before the last knock. The first two games vs the dutch was proving that almost but then the last knock is one of the very best I have watched in recent memory. Even though it was a draw the draw vs India had similar result that couldn't have been predicted.

It's obvious they'll rest Sodhi and play Santner.

I didn't want to watch the last game but our boys played so **** they made it an interesting watch and thanks to Macewell we won. Had to carry a bad migraine all day next day.

I'm not hoping to watch tonight and hoping for a thumping performance giving Irish absolutely zero chance like in 2017 tour.

Macewell is in a different role to the one he has at Wellington and it's more in line with his T20 job, so I am open to being convinced he can be our finisher.

We really need games against Starc, Bumrah etc though before I'd finalise him (or any of our batsmen not called KW and Conway) in the side. He's going to need to deal with death bowling from those guys when the World Cup is on the line.

OMG you sat up all through the night when we were getting taught a lesson by the Irish, and wore a migraine the entire next day?
You really are the biggest NZ FAN of the lot, glad for you Macewell did the business in the end to at least make that migraine slightly worthwhile?

I have a laugh emoji to this.

Then realised how sadly true it is.

Thought of not watching say more than an hour's cricket but then we had Allen, Locke, Phillips and co. Tector entertained, it was fun watching him bat after he got to 80+ I thought we'll get to 100+ for no loss or maybe 1 down by 10 overs and I could go to sleep but not to be. Seeing the size of the ground particularly straight kind of knew all along someone like Macewell will come good. When there were 10 overs to go knew we'll win. I was like don't use Singh his last over if you want to win Ireland he'll go for plenty but then they did and from then on knew we'll win. So sat through.

That truly was a phenomenal inning from Bracewell. High chances he'll never repeat that again in his lifetime unless he's on Pukekura Park but it was a quality knock. I'd say he should score as many as he can vs the Ireland, Dutch and Scotland. He's playing every game against these guys and make hay when sun. At least he won't be pulled up for not having done enough to warrant a selection against the other sides like it did when he played vs England. The bloke looked like he was going to cry during the post match interview. 13 years on the domestic circuit and hasn't had as much success. Now a knock like this will have done a world of good.

The management nearly screwed him over. Played him in tests and he came across a form England team. Took a lot of shots for getting hammered at 6 rpo in test cricket. If the white ball team to Europe was not announced as early as they did he wouldn't have made the squad. He now has a life line. I don't expect him to have Hussey like career but at least he'll be centrally contracted for couple of years. He'll get some opportunities to play. Expect him to be totally lost with the ball as he progresses but I think he'll be all right with the bat.

I mean I agree somewhat but it's absolutely farcical he's in the squad let alone the team. Below average record in all formats and coming off easily his worst season in FC, I do not understand the logic at all.

Is Lockie injured? If not I'm absolutely pissed. Don't mind Duffy but they could have dropped Henry, he's been bowling lot of ****.

I think some of our batters got lucky again. The deck looks very green and high chance we would have lost 5 for nothing.
