realistically how much time do you think Root has left in him? couple years?
He doesn't play T20s and there's barely and ODIs played these days. I reckon being relieved of captaincy has extended his career by a bit though I don't see him playing past 36. So 3-4 I'd say.

By the present and future I meant Root and Pope, respectively btw.

No reason Root shouldn't carry on for many years really, fit and in the form of his career, looks s much more relaxed since he gave up the captaincy, fill your boots son.

If you've got to the point that Henry is doing the Wags role your selection has gone awry. NZ actually has strength in depth so always a risk happening. Not a concern really for England as the reserve options are all **** as well
Yeah had to laugh at "Henry is now doing the Wagner role".. whilst the real Neil looks on haha

kiwis to correct but i think the problem is that Wags isn't capable of doing the Wags role anymore (or struggled this summer anyway) and they have no one else with that particular talent?

Wags' powers do seem to me to have somewhat diminished, although I'm not sure if it's a permanent decline or just a slump that he might be able to come out of.

This is nonsensical cricket. Basically begging England to score quickly while also taking away our wicket-taking options. We were actually looking fairly likely after the Lees wicket and then we just gave up? Isn’t this the exact mistake we made when Bangladesh beat us?

fair, but he also came through really early. i'm now morbidly curious about the careers of players post hitting the big 10k
Much easier for batsman to push on past mid thirties than bowlers.
Having said that batsman still need to apply themselves.
Joe could go another 5-7 years on a good day, or bad day if you're not an English fan.

Has looked well down on pace, and has actually been relying more on pitching it up and swinging it to get wickets. Having said that he’s still been averaging about 27 for the past year, so it’s not like he’s been horrendously out of sorts or anything. Henry leapfrogged him for 4th seamers spot with a 7fer v South Africa, but if he keeps bowling as he has today I suspect he’ll drop back down the pecking order soon enough.

There are question marks how well he can do it now... still had a little success with the Wagner approach in the home summer, though some of it was really bowling sub-125km/h with a bright red angry Wagner face. Would England fall for that? Not sure. I guess NZ have seen how he's bowling in the nets and didn't think he was at his best. But also shouldn't write off Wagner prematurely - his M/O has worked plenty of times operating at 132km/h and James Anderson's three years old than Wags and still able to bowl that pace.

There's absolutely no doubt NZ is missing what he's provided in the past, anyway. Henry doing the Wagner role is just not going to work. Jamieson is the one that should be able to extract something with the older ball, but been a bit average here.
