He inherited a legendary defence, plus Bergkamp and Wright but the rest of the team he made himself. To take over a squad which wasn't anything special especially compared to Sir Alex's at the time and win the double so quickly was a fabulous achievement.

Too bad he still hasn't properly replaced that defence, although Senderos looked the dog's bollox last night.
That's still alot better than the team Ferguson inherited.

Conveniently ignoring his domestic record because it suits you. 8-)

He was never given a chance to prove himself at International level.
I'd say 15 (?) caps is enough of a go at that level for a coach to make his mind up about a player.

I think Cole's poo first touch was a liability at international level. He scored once IIRC?

Cole was a great premiership striker, he could turn on a six pence and had a good eye for goal. However even as a MU supporter he was a tad one dimensional for the international game. And he wasn't as good as shearer, which isn't to say he was bad.

I agree totally. He really only had one trick (being quick, not a bad trick to have, but still) & against superior defenders it wasn't enough.

The fact he would struggle to trap a wet bag of cement never helped him either. ;)

To put it kindly, though his touch wasn't the worst i've seen and he was a great poacher. The forward on my team, no he couldn't trap a bag of cement, hence his name "donkey".

If they were 15 off the reel I'd agree, but being in and out can't help.

1) Yes, and Saha having a worse record than Cole most certainly isn't a doshonour.

2) Fair enough, but the original point was that Saha having a worse record in the Premiership than Cole isn't a disgrace, and Marc hasn't yet said anything to make me change my mind there.

Saha is a great player, he just needs a bit of confidence, anyone can see that. What marc says is irrelevant, he isn't exactly one to praise "Manure" players as he so delightfully puts it.
