It was a massive over-reaction by the police.
No it wasn't, the Liverpool fans would have thrown everything in England at him if they hadn't have done it - and he brought it on himself.

By todays standards no.

By the standards of the time then he did.
In todays standards or otherwise, buys like Schmeichel and Cantona were still absolute bargains - Schmeichel has been described - rightly or wrongly - as the buy of the century.

He spent some on bringing Hughes back, and a few others, but not much really.

How is it any worse than when a player does it?

From what the radio had been saying he had been shouted at all game by those fans, so responded when Chelsea scored.

In terms of the game he spent a lot - far more than Wenger did and Wenger got much more immediate results.

Arsenal scrape through against Sheffield Utd. Got the distinct impression Kenny (who was awesome for the vast majority) wasn't up or fit enough for penalties

Don't doubt his commitment. He'd been on painkilling injections all game for a right hip problem.

Lucky, lucky Arsenal.

Mind you, Sheffield did have a penalty save disallowed, and they went on to score.. Not sure how dubious it was in the end..

I always have and still do hate the glorified coin tossing competition at the end of football matches. Vieira got away with a series of elbows in quick succession and should have been sent off, but then I expect nothing better from the cheating crybaby mercenaries, I was waiting for Ljungberg and Vieira to dive over their pet lips for most of the game.

The keeper had pushed his foot a few inches in front of the line as the kick was taken, so it was technically correct - but the same happened on the first 'real' save as well and that wasn't retaken, didn't see the side-on angle for the second save.
