i agree, the premiership is definately not the best in the world and after you get out of the top 6 there a few mediocre sides and the rest are extremely average or dire, its as simple as that, in terms of points everton are closer to the bottom of the table than they are to arsenal, thats a complete joke which highlights how little strength in depth the premiership has.

As opposed to Italy, where Udinese and Palermo are fifth and sixth, or Spain, where Sevilla and Villareal are third and fourth?

yeah of course thats very similar to what Ronaldinho, Owen and Deco says about the premiership. We getting as bad as the scottish league, next year the league is only out of man u, chelsea and arsenal, and i couldnt even guess when that will change

I agree with what Neil said, I watch the Spanish live match most weeks and there are some poor teams in there, not sure about Italy but i'm failry sure they have their fair share

sevilla , villareal, and udinese would have no problems beating the likes of birmingham, spurs, aston villa and all those other suchlike teams, they are good sides, the premisership is misleading as it makes birmingham look better than mediocre, which they cleary are not. and as for spurs then they are just poor year in year out, never getting better i dont care what anyone says.

woah lets not go too far, its no where near as poor as the SPL, but the premiership is not as good as la liga, and debateably not asgood as serie A, its is the next best after those though.

Gappage: In Italy, Palermo (6) are closer to the bottom, and Spain's Bilbao (8) and are, too.

All you need is one super-rubbish team and you blow that stat wide-open. It's nearly as weak as the "Laxman averages 3 when he doesnt pass 10" stat. You want Variance to measure competitiveness!

Now, in the Conference you need to go down to Gravesend in 14th...

Villareal can't beat AZ Alkmaar...

The quality outside the top 3 really isnt that good. There are some very mediocre teams doing well look at Everton and Bolton all credit to them they have great managers but really they are not greaat sides

if we want to go down that road.......
villareal beat barcelona, who lost to real madrid, who lost to juve, who lost to liverpool, who lost to chelsea, who lost to man city, who lost to tranmere in the league cup, who lost to brentford, who lost to vauxhaul motors :p

fine then, they would see off everton easily as well. and probably beat middlesbrough, and bolton without many problems.

Here are some more. I'm not sure what they all mean, but they're pretty, and I think they do suggest that there's naff all difference between the leagues in terms of variance and competitiveness. Except in Scotland!
