4th ODI - NZ v Australia 2009

It's locked up at 2-2 going into the decider after that man Hayden again steered his side safely towards the win.

Jaques is, along with Shane Watson, one of the best players in ICC 2005. Hayden, however, is crap in my game, so bad luck :P

Pipped with an over to spare for the second match in a row! :@
Aussie (or should I say Hayden!) take out the series 3-2.
A disappointing finale for 39 year old Chris Harris who was put into the lineup ahead of the poorly performed Brendon Diamante. Harry hasn't officially announced his retirement, but how long can he keep putting off the inevitable! :p

Welcome to the 2009-10 season!

The only notable retirement is that of Nathan Astle who can now spend more time with his old buddies Matthew Horne and Chris Cairns.
Chris Harris has yet again confounded the pundits by deciding to continue his career. Harry will be turning 40 later in the season! :-O

NZ Squad to tour England 2009

Opening Batsmen
Stephen Fleming
Timothy McIntosh
Murray Jagger

Other Batsmen
Mathew Sinclair
Peter Fulton (capt)
Chris Harris
Jesse Ryder
Jacob Oram (all rounder)
Kyle Mills (all rounder)
Lou Vincent

Keepers
Chris Nevin
Ian Marston

Pace Bowlers
Iain O'Brien
Chris Benton
Daryl Tuffey
Matthew Walker

Spin Bowlers
Andrew Aimson
Daniel Vettori

Choosing a third opening batsman after Stephen Fleming and Timothy McIntosh was very difficult with several players in the frame.
24 year old Richard Bucknall has the best stats, but has had ongoing injury problems and has been disappointing when given a chance previously.
28 year old Nicholas Horsley impressed in the ODI's against Australia.
25 year old Neil Broom was another to be considered.
However all missed out to 20 year old Murray Jagger who is being touted as a future star. The English tour was seen as an ideal opportunity to blood him into the international setup.

Of the other batsmen, Chris Harris retains his spot despite his age due to a solid performance last season.
This meant that there was no room for 24 year old Jeff Tyson, perhaps another name that might crop up in future.
It is hoped that 24 year old Jesse Ryder will make further strides on this tour, particularly in the two tests.

24 year old keeper Ian Marston impressed last season when he took over from Chris Nevin
and is now the incumbent test keeper.

In the pace bowling department, James Franklin, Mark Gillespie, Brent Hefford and Andrew Schwass could all be considered unfortunate to miss the cut, but with all rounder Jacob Oram proving a capable bowler at test level, it was decided to take only four specialist pacemen.
Iain O'Brien and Daryl Tuffey have been consistently proven performers and were automatic selections.
Matthew Walker has been a consistent performer at domestic level and also has a good test and one day record, so he regained his place in the squad.
The new face is 19 year old RMF bowler Chris Benton. Again he is one to watch for the future and I am hoping that this tour will fast track his development.

NZ have been crying out for a young spinner and now we have a promising 20 year old off spinner by the name of Andrew Aimson. He has been brought on tour with Daniel Vettori again with an eye to the future.

First up on tour is a three day friendly against Combined Universities. Here is the NZ playing eleven:

Good luck for this tour Graham! Looks like you have some good talent coming through, good signs for the 2011 World Cup.

Can you post the screen which shows your Test & ODI results home and away against different teams. I think you know the one I'm talking about.

Promising performances from the young bowlers Chris Benton and particularly Andrew Aimson.
Not very tough opposition though. I'll give them another run against one of the county sides. That should be more telling!

Next up a three day friendly against Sussex. All those who didn't get a run in the first game are included with the exception of Iain O'Brien who will play in the final friendly..

We batted well, but our bowling lacked penetration. A worrying sign leading into the tests!

The last match before the test series is a three day friendly against Northamptonshire.

Let's hope that our bowlers show some form!

The only good thing that I can say is that we're now into England's long tail! Damn Strauss! :glare:

England with a small edge with the runs on the board! Day Three will be a crucial one for NZ. Which way will the pendulum swing?

1st Test - England v NZ 2009 (after Day 3)

Aided by captain Peter Fulton's 10th century in 31 tests and Matthew Walker's triumphant 84 on his return to the test side, NZ gained a small first innings lead! :D
