Comments

Opening batsman Tim McIntosh could consider himself unfortunate to miss selection in favour of Murray Jagger, but the NZ selectors saw this tour as the ideal opportunity to blood some youth.

Left arm pace bowler James Franklin was the only player unavailable for selection due to injury.

The only new faces are 20 year old allrounders Wayne Vincent and Barry Darbon.
Vincent was selected as a batsman whereas Darbon is a genuine allrounder.

The warmup match against Mashonaland saw most of the NZ batsmen get useful time in the middle with Matthew Sinclair scoring a double ton.
The surprise in the bowling department was 20 year old allrounder Wayne Vincent who picked up a career best haul.

We've gone for experience in the batting and youth in the bowling! :)
Right arm seamer Chris Benton is making his debut.

Zimbabwe

Norman Mukondiwa
Mark Vermeulen
Gavin Ewing
Gregory Strydom
H.Liebenberg
H.Gilder
Amos Maungwa
Mbekezeke Mabuza (wk)
Tinashe Panyangara
Edward Rainsford
Tawanda Mupariwa

The home sides batting is solid with promising youngsters Liebenberg and Gilder both averaging 40.
Gilder is making his international debut.
The bowling is a concern though with no strike bowlers on the Zimbabwean scene at present.

NZ have won the toss and will bat first.

1st Test - NZ in Zimbabwe 2010 (after Day One)

NZ got off to a great start with Fleming and Papps putting together a record stand, but the Zimbabwean bowlers toiled away to claw their way back into the match by the end of Day One.

Keeper Ian Marston helped the tail wag after Oram and Treanor fell early and we were pleased with the total of 446.
However there were no demons in the pitch to help the young NZ pacers as the home side batted well to be 114/1 by the close.
