Haha yep. You'll have read at the end of that piece that their learnings from the Plunket Promise fiasco have been to run straight back to their sadistic yet wealthy boyfriend.

Btw, that season structure as proposed in the Herald article in kippax's post. I would be ok with as a one off next season in World Cup year.

But permanently? **** off.
The aim should be a profitable HRV, and then a structure that produces the best blackcaps team, so that central funding is strong, more secure.

Plunket Shield as an afterthought bookend is not the way to a strong blackcaps, and a strong blackcaps is the safest way to riches for NZC, the provinces, and all the players except about 7 or 8 good enough to get IPL contracts.

New Zealand Cricket has today released the 2014-15 Plunket Shield schedules, and locked in a format for the domestic season for the next four years.

"Our Major Associations told us certainty of scheduling was crucial, so this season's format will be in place for the next four years," says NZC General Manager Domestic Cricket David Cooper.

"It's a key outcome from the Domestic Cricket Review, which is all about maximising entertainment and commercial opportunities, and supporting high performance. Recommendations from the review will be in place this year, to capitalise on public interest in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015."

Current champions Canterbury will open their title defence at the revamped Hagley Oval against the Wellington Firebirds on 25 October. Three full rounds will be played in October and December 2014, with the rest of the competition played from early February 2015.

They're definitely packing the T20 into the next four Novembers by the looks, to assist Black Caps availability. Except not this year I guess, because of the Pakistan/UAE tour.

I think November is all about it being pre-BBL window.

They had about 3 options;
1. Nov pre-BBL, but cool weather and pre-Xmas distractions.

2. Post x-mas. Good weather, holidays, traditional domestic attendance. But clash with BBL (both for players and TV)

3. No block, 'scattered' through season with televised match each Friday. Poor for attending spectators but good for TV continuity.

Hmm, interesting on the BBL reasoning.

Might explain all of the Otago televised games last season, too. As well as Fairfax's 'Ryder is clickbait, stuff their gobs with inane Ryder updates' policy on Stuff of late.

Think it's more likely that they're trying to figure out a way to get in on the BBL. Don't have a problem with that to be honest.

5-for and 100 on his 2nds debut, not making a bad fist of it at all.

The problem is that Henry doesn't get a spot in the squad when Anderson is 12th man. 2 of Wagner, Craig and Sodhi will play in the UAE. That means our reserves are Anderson, Craig and presumably a batsman.

We took a squad of 15 to WI. If we do the same for the UAE then I think the following will be selected

The XI from the last test, minus Rutherford
Anderson
Sodhi
Ronchi

That leaves two remaining spots. One will go to the new opener, whoever that may be. I could easily see the other going to a 4th seamer, especially given that some of the UAE pitches have offered a bit for the seamers in recent times. Henry and Bracewell seem the most likely candidates for that spot. In any case, I think Henry will likely get a trip to Dubai for the ODI segment.
