So, a captain, who made his debut between 1900 and 1914, was the first to do something as a batsman (in the two innings of a match) and did it at least 7 times out of the 13 times it has been done.

Does it have anything to do with remaining not out ?

I am also impressed though I too may have found it quickly. Your question had too many easy clues. It wasn't difficult to find the county who first won the Championship in the 40's and then to look for their great players (a batsman and a bowler) during the year when they won it a second time.

Only three teams won the Championship in the four years (due to the war) that they were held in the 40's. Middlesex and Yorkshire had won it before. That left Glamorgan. Here it shows the above and also that they won it again in 1969.

Look at the 1969 batting and bowling figures and you find that Jones and Shephard were the highest run and wicket getters during the year.

Click on Shepherds name in those bowling figures of 1969 and it leads to the profile where it says.
Don Shepherd took a club record of 2, 174 wickets for Glamorgan between 1950 and 1972. In all first-class cricket, he claimed 2,218 victims, yet remarkably, Shepherd never played in Test cricket. Indeed, the off-cutters tally of over two thousand wickets is the highest by any bowler never to have played for England.

Jones's profile expresses similar sentiments about his not playing for England without indicating that its a record.

Its still great work by 'weldone'

Well done Weldone

:@ I will make it harder next time:happy:

its not like that..many have done these things before..what made him unique he was the first to do it as a combination as i said in the first clue,,,and a small correction it was done in only 12 test matches

Are you H. Taylor? Well, the combination of things seems to be too complicated...Is it a combination of captaining a test side, opening the batting and getting out to the same bowler in both the innings or something like that?

Now, it has to be either Sherwell or Warner....They are the only cricketers (except Taylor) who can be termed an 'openers', were test captains for 7 or more matches and made their debut between 1900-1914...So, by method of elimination it's Sherwell or Warner....If it's not anyone of them, then you answered some of the questions wrongly...I don't know what combination of things you're talking about, though...

One cricketer, while talking about another cricketer, says that if he had born as a British or an Australian, he would have commanded the same respect from critics as Bradman did. Who says this about whom?

(the exact quote not given so that it doesn't become very easy for you by searching :) )
