No need to answer the first two questions (O after posting this, I see you've already answered my 2 questions, no probs :) )...The answers are Alan Jones and Don Shepherd....Highest number of FC runs and FC wickets respectively by players who've never played test cricket...Great question and even greater answering  ... So what's next? :)

I am also impressed though I too may have found it quickly. Your question had too many easy clues. It wasn't difficult to find the county who first won the Championship in the 40's and then to look for their great players (a batsman and a bowler) during the year when they won it a second time.

Only three teams won the Championship in the four years (due to the war) that they were held in the 40's. Middlesex and Yorkshire had won it before. That left Glamorgan. Here it shows the above and also that they won it again in 1969.

Look at the 1969 batting and bowling figures and you find that Jones and Shephard were the highest run and wicket getters during the year.

Click on Shepherds name in those bowling figures of 1969 and it leads to the profile where it says.
Don Shepherd took a club record of 2, 174 wickets for Glamorgan between 1950 and 1972. In all first-class cricket, he claimed 2,218 victims, yet remarkably, Shepherd never played in Test cricket. Indeed, the off-cutters tally of over two thousand wickets is the highest by any bowler never to have played for England.

Jones's profile expresses similar sentiments about his not playing for England without indicating that its a record.

Its still great work by 'weldone'

Well done Weldone
