Although I am neither English nor Australian, I feel a greater affinity for their olden greats than those of my own country. Here are my choices for both:

England
1. W.G. Grace
2. Jack Hobbs
3. Wally Hammond
4. Kevin Pietersen
5. Alfred Mynn
6. Mike Brearley (skipper)
7. Bob Taylor (stumper)
8. Bob Appleyard
9. Sydney Barnes
10. Charles Kortright
11. Ted Peate
12. Johnny Briggs

Australia
1. Victor Trumper
2. Bill Ponsford
3. Don Bradman
4. Ricky Ponting
5. Clem Hill
6. Keith Miller
7. Shane Warne (skipper)
8. Jack Blackham (stumper)
9. Charlie Turner
10. Fred Spofforth
11. Glenn McGrath

If we're now doing other countries as well I'll throw in an Australian XI

1. Keith Stackpole
2. Arthur Morris
3. Don Bradman
4. Greg Chappell
5. Elvis Presley
6. Keith Miller
7. Rodney Marsh
8. Shane Warne
9. Dennis Lillee
10. Jeff Thomson
11. Bill O'Reilly

My Aussies have a comfortable edge over yours: Morris and Stackpole simply can't compare with Trumper and Ponsford; Ponting has to be Chappell's superior; Blackham was a miles-better stumper (going by the relative standards of their respective times) than Marsh; Turner was as much a menace as Lillee; and Spofforth takes Thommo with ease. Only in Elvis's mercurial genius as a number five -- Clem just doesn't compare -- and O'Reilly's superiority to Pigeon does your team have a glimmer of hope.
