Lillee's peer rating may have to do with the then Australian situation. He came into the scene when Australia had their highest losing streak.

Top 10

Marshall / McGrath
Hadlee
Ambrose/Steyn
Imran
Lillee
Wasim
Donald
Bumrah (after 250 wickets)
Swap Lillee and Wasim. Garner, Trueman, Lindwall would be good shouts as well, but a good list imo. Not sure if I'll rate Bumrah in the top ten if he gets 250 wickets. 300 works for me.

Do you think it may have had something to do with the fact Australia and England(whom he dominated) had more influence on the game back then?
It has to do with just the style.

Look at this, this is what a fast bowler is meant to be even today, 90mph+, swing, aggressive attitude and bowling and the ability to rip apart lineups. Even the mighty windies quaret was created because Lloyd saw Lillee in 75-76.

Lillee is the godfather of modern pace bowling, and that's why he has such a rep.

Yes. But also let's be honest, he had no competition for this title of best in the world except for Roberts for much of the 70s.

He inspired Imran and Hadlee in their pacing journeys but they only came good in the late 70s onwards by which time Lillee's reputation was solidified.

I mean that's true, just saying why I think Lillee is seen so highly, that and everyone who played him can't stop singing praises.

Despite Lillee being one of the more "dominated at home" ATG pacer. Richards (x2), Sobers, Lloyd et all.

He was a total showman and the crowd shouting his name is he charged at the bats was the epitome of a cricketing spectacle.

Also his journey of coming back from a back strain, always being keen on bowling long spells, and then later having one of the most archetypical pace bowling actions really solidified his rep.
