Most Overrated Player?

Andre

International Regular
John Crawley
Dominic Cork
The reason i say this is that they have never performed against the top nations like Pakistan, South Africa or Australia.

i dont think mark waugh is overrated, but i do think ian harvey is overrated.
he does well for vic and county but when asked to step up in the odi he never does.

He's another one of those players that are brilliant at first-class level, but hopeless at international level, take Craig Spearman..he is currently averaging 60 in the County Championship, but he couldn't even average 20 at Intl level for NZ after about 30 test matches.

Yeah I agree about Craig Spearman. When I first saw him bat, I thought "Wow! Here's a guy who can really bat!" but aside from a few really big sixes and some quick cameos, he's failed to live up to the promise. What a shame.

The other NZ player im thinking of is Andrew Penn, who consistently takes a truck load of wickets every year at first class level, however the times he has been called up to intl level he has been quite embarassing. It's a shame when you see that happening, but obviously you soon find out the men from the boys I guess.

ok so u ppl think Ganguly is over-rated.....

everybody mentions Hrishikesh Kanitkars 4 in the last over of the Bangladesh Independence cup final where India succesfully chased Pakistan's 314.but nobody and nobody mentions a great innings under pressure played by Sourav Ganguly....with no one actually playing well under the pressure of a huge score to chase,Ganguly scripted 124 and in that circumstances it was a great knock.he was and is the first ever indian player to score 150+ twice in a ODI career.he held the record for highest Indian ODI score until Tendulkar passed him by 3 runs...but tell me,does a 3 run advantage really count much over the advantage of a hapless kiwi attack compared to a Sri Lankan Attack, the advantage of a really flat Indian pitch compared to a pitch at Taunton...i really dont think so...if Tendulkar deserves the highest Indian score tag,he shouldve scored a 200 to beat ganguly.u cannot call Ganguly a 1 innings wonder as hes scored plenty of tons at international level.nobody thought ganguly was over-rated at the 1999 world cup did they?ok u can say that hes had a reallllly extended run of failures, but hes making up lost ground now.when did this run start?when he was made captain.didnt Tendulkar suffer from a shorter run of this sort????and the reason Tendulkar had a shorter run was that the selectors decided to relieve him of his job as captain much earlier.but will they do such a thing with ganguly???no because hes the perfect scape-goat for the press while they hide and bungle around with selections like Deep DasGupta.

his short-ball flaw???well he was a totally off-sided player when he first entered international cricket.didnt he work and work and bcome a decent on-side player now?so give him some time to work on this flaw as well....

so as u can deduce from my looong oration,i certainly do not think tht Sourav Ganguly is over-rated......but i do believe he'll be back to his best once he is relieved from Captaincy.

THERE!my rant is finished :D:D:D:D

Thanks for bringing this one up again, Paul...

It wouldn't really have mattered who we'd have picked with the pitch like it was today.

A far cry from the one at Louth on Wednesday night, where some idiot managed to put the pipe leading off the covers underneath the covers leading to a huge wet patch outside leg stump...

Looking at current averages I'd say he hasn't had an excellent start at all - he's 6th in the Kent averages, and is averaging about 40.

If you're looking at excellent starts, Nick Knight deserves a mention (as well as Crawley, whose recall I foresaw 3 weeks ago)

Dammit, going to have to agree with Marc again. Key's started more strongly, but sadly it's the Aussies scoring all the runs. Again.

Lets not forget also that if Sri Lanka did not have Vaas or Murali, their attack would be down with Zimbabwe's. Murali takes the majority of wickets for Sri Lanka.

Come on... the pitch is flatter than the proverbial pancake. No-one will take many wickets on it. Okay, waste-of-space Butcher got himself out to an unkown who can't decide what he's called, but our very long batting line up should save it. ~480 all out I reckon.
