Match #48- Super Eights, Australia vs Afghanistan (N), Arnos Vale, Saint Vincent-- June 22nd- Group 1

Sucks that Australia lost but you can't really complain about the format. It could have just been a quarter final where one loss puts you out. At least Australia still have a sniff at that semi.

No thats incorrect. It's usually goal difference first. Which is football's NRR. If there is a 3-way tie then Head to Head doesn't really work. So NRR/goal difference is preferred.

Knowing you can only play the 2nd semifinal is an advantage? yeah right! given the 1st semifinal is a day earlier, giving the winner of that match an extra day off before the final.

Any team would usually prefer to play first so thats a slight disadvantage for India. Dude one can twist this anyway one likes. The only reason it's predetermined is for TV Rights (prime time slot) and not to give an advantage. Thats all there is to it. You are just being disingenuous
Depends on which tournament you are watching, the majority I have watched goes h2h first. But its neither here nor there. Can argue which one is more fair.

As for the second point. Tell me any other sport where one sides semi final venue is predetermined compared to other sides in the competition...its a clear advantage as you can plan the composition of your squad, hotel plans, flight plans well in advance..

as long as you lot don't poach fleming from csk i don't care
You're safe there. No way Fleming's giving up his approx. $500,000 US IPL salary for 2 months work, followed by a couple of Fijitsu commercials & some business interests on the side.

Venues are decided before because there are many Indian fans who have booked their tour to Caribbean for WC . There would be huge last minute bookings and cancellations if fans don’t know what is the venue for semi-finals .

Agar went for 17 runs off his 4 overs. I really don't see how the #9 is being blamed for this loss lmao. He's a decent enough second spinner and playing him was the right call.
It’s the wrong call when he’s picked over Starc at any time. Starc takes top order wickets for fun at the back end of tournaments. Why play an extra spinner against a team which plays against apin all the time? Agar isn’t Warne or Hogg. Hes cod ordinary.

He just fielded like a Muppet. Dropped a catch and overran two balls that ended up going for 4.

Because conditions matter.

His fielding efforts probably cost Australia 7-10 runs. So in a way you can say his figures are more like 0/25 in 4 overs.

i am sure Starc would have done better by taking top order wickets.

Speaking of Indian fans, how I wish I could punch that idiot with the disgusting lenses in the balls.

An historic win for the Afghans and really well deserved.

A strange performance all round from the Aussies.

They won the toss and bowled, didn't play Starc and their fielding was below par.

The Starc omission seemed odd. Yes Agar bowled well but the game was won with the Afghans opening partnership.

Would that have happened if Starc was playing - maybe but my feeling is probably not.

Afghanistan still such an incredibly young side too. Naib and Nabi aside, everyone is 25 and under, and unlike Rashid, genuinely so too it seems. Definitely have a WC in them and no chance like the present.
