Clearly. The only real conversation is Viv or Sobers (edge Viv).

Lara, Hutton, Smith are their own rung
But don't think that's an insult to any of the 3.

For me that's just a hair below the others and still the same tier, it's really just splitting hairs and arguments still exist for them to be in the rung above.

If you can make either of the top 2 teams of all time, you're ****ing elite, and all of these guys do that.

Maybe if Smith spends the entirety of the 2020’s averaging 43 he can be compared to Viv.
Probably if Viv had access to some of the attacks that Smith has to feast in, he would have been higher. Who else faced 3 top 10 bowlers consistently during their career, and two of them made it through his entire career. Not to mention zero minnows and no dead pitch eras and dead home pitches to pad on?

I sincerely wonder if you ever actually watched cricket or any of these players in particular.

And it's the trendy thing to downplay Viv, but he's closer to Tendulkar than to Lara.

And as far as I'm concerned Lara is the best batsman I've ever seen.
Besides Hutton, and even that wasn't universal either, who had tougher pitch conditions to deal with than Viv?

I'm listening.
Gavaskar isn't in the same tier as either.

And definely not in any argument for the best batsman since Bradman.
