Well how about some examples of things great captains have done because I cant for the life of me think of any captain that has done something so out of the normal that has won a game. So please provide examples of things other captains have done that Ponting has not yet done.

Smart man like you Eddie would know that it's all in the meaning and not in the words.

And Dasa, we're born with it. Just ask all the Aussies you know.

What's it with Aussies and arrogance?
Theres nothing really. Some people just like to think that because we think our team is the best (which it is) and can be bias (as everyone can), we are arrogant.
I will never forget some of the 'You are just an arrogant aussie' posts from some people, especially during the India in Australia series. :D

When the West Indies were at the top they had the arrogance crown, its just the way homage is paid to the top team.

Now Australians will see that as logical and others will see that as arrogance, clever eh.

:)

Arrogant (adj) - Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward others: an arrogant contempt for the weak.

I and my fellow Australians are apparently arrogant because:
1. Our team is the best in the world.
2. We voice that on a regular basis.
3. Sour grapes is an awful, awful disease.

Still, I always thought that Australia's position of number 1 was universally recognized by sane individuals, and even officially by the ICC. Takes away the assumption kind of.

Indeed, Ged. I've just been back and re-read your post 3 times and I still cannot work out whether you are humouring Scallywag, having a go at the CricketWeb staff (that seems to be the fashion today) or being constructive. I suspect all three, but it could just as easily have been none of them.

As usual, the message became lost in the rhetoric (between you and me, the bits where you talk about 'canine faecal matter' and 'having a gutful') which is a pity, because you seemed to have something which was worth saying.

I know plenty of Aussies - and believe me, none of them are anything like the impression you seem keen to give. Then again, they aren't kids.

The problem is when the interpretation is extended towards excessive over-rating of players *cough*Clarke*cough* and comments like "there are at least 50 Australians who are better fielders than Hussain"...

Alright English, shout you a cup of tea if you can find a post in the last 4 months where I've said anything excessively generous towards Michael Clarke?

Let sleeping dogs lie.

I think what Gaijin-san is saying is : If Lloyd didnt have Greenige, Haynes, Richards, Marshall, well the list goes on and on, what would have seperated him from the crowd.

He knew how to lead them, Lloyd knew how to lead a good team and now after 67 ODIs and winning 53 of them Ponting knows how to lead a good team.

As far as arrogance goes India take that with "Tendulkar is the best".

It's not about sour grapes or disputing Australia being the best team in the world, one cannot seriously claim any other team to hold that position.
However, it is possible to support your country, be the best in the world AND be gracious. They aren't mutually exclusive things you know.

Dasa Australians are confident people and a lot of the time that is misinterpreted as arrogance. The Dutch and Americans are known for this too.

Take your bitching elsewhere I'm not interested.

Maybe so, but it doesn't fit into the definition of arrogance. Find a new word.

Point admirably demonstrated.

If I hadn't been told, I could easily have mistaken "Take your bitching elsewhere. I'm not interested." for arrogance or, as Dasa intimated, 'not being gracious'.

But no, it's really just confidence.

What does this have to do with Australia being the best cricket team in the world?
