Border is better and pretty much has a dominant record across all conditions with longevity. His series in 1983/84 WI against peak Garner, Marshall and Holding trumps what most have ever done. Also stood tall against prime Hadlee in 1985/86, against Holding and Garner in 1981/82, prime Botham and Willis in 1981.

Yeah, but Sanga batted at 3 his whole career and kept wickets for a 3rd of it (still batting at 3). While not keeping, for a stretch of a good 80+ Tests, his average rises to 65+.

For a good portion of Border’s career especially during the rescue jobs, the guys above him were so inept, him batting at 4/5 didn’t make that much difference. Sanga’s peak stats are ridiculous agreed, but I prefer Border who has a perfect record across all conditions and performances against ATGs in diverse conditions

Ehhh, I don't buy that completely. Granted he had it tougher than Waugh or Laxman, but hardly than Chanderpaul who gets punched down for batting down to no end. Also, Sanga batted at 3 after some pretty mid openers. It should be noted that Sanga's peak is a bit different than most others, as before that he was a full time keeper batting at 3, a significantly hard job imo. But yeah, I also voted Border here.

Meh, he averaged that in the most batting friendly era of all time where there was only one truly great bowler out there. Against that bowler in games that were not roads, he averaged 30. He has similar numbers against McGrath and Warne if you want to count them. No doubt he was a smart operator who knew how to maximize his limited skills, but for most part he was a FTB with a few decent away knocks.

Border, on the other hand, faced far better bowlers, played in a weaker team, and dealt with far more challenging conditions.

Revered and renowned Sri Lankan poster @Himannv sets aside any nationalistic bias and delivers a compelling, pro-Border case here.

iirc only one of them averages 50+ home and away.
