KP dropped ; vents anger on twitter

One despairs someone of so little wit was ever captain, however briefly. Really: what was the thought process that lead to this, if I'm not giving it too much credit by describing it as such?
The same thought process that gave the captaincy to Flintoff. The cult of the personality and ignoring the dressing room and committee room responsibilities of a captain. Strauss was the natural guy after Vaughan, it just took a lot of ****ing around before we got there.

Yeah, ok, it's good seeing that stung him that he's been dropped - would be much better if there was some sense from him that it was a reasonable decision given his recent performances and that it was now placed back on him to regain some form, rather than simply bitching that it's a ****ed decision.

I get what you're saying, but anyway ODIs and T20s are where the money is.

This was a guy whose ego was hurt, and he got angry. Just like any player's ego is hit when they are dropped. Nothing "oh so good to see" about it. We're not owed seeing players feelings.
I think you'll find no-balls are where the money is

No-one is saying we are owed it - I think people are just glad that he wasn't not bothered about being dropped, if that makes sense.

It's not damaging to England because it was KP who said it.

However if Strauss was dropped as ODI captain (for e.g.) and came out and bitched on his Twitter or in a press conference about it, it would clearly damage the team.

Strauss is pretty deadpan boring at times. But he does what is right for the team

Sure it's be great to have more Ajmal-esque interviews to add a bit of spice to the game. But inner-fighting and complaints is never a "good thing", despite it being interesting to read.

In this case it wasn't even interesting to read. It was just "oh KP isn't happy being dropped". At least Afridi hitting Asif with a bat was something entertaining. Even more entertaining now
I don't think Strauss always does what's right for the team. Peter Moores was a prank-coach who was taking the team nowhere, and Strauss just floundered about and let it happen. KP got something done about it. Would England have won the Ashes if it weren't for that? Maybe, but nobody thought they would at the time.

Strauss is a nice guy. Sometimes that leads him to do what's best for the team, sometimes it doesn't. KP doesn't care what people think. Sometimes that might damage team spirit, other times it gives him the scope to say what needs saying for the good of the team. I think it's quite healthy for a side to have both personalities in it.

The thing is, all of your criticisms of KP could equally be used against Roy Keane (), and I'd like to see you argue that his personality damaged his side's chances of success.

Strauss had just gone the whole summer without making a run tbf.

There's no proof that anyone other than KP did or didn't do anything regarding Moores tbf, which I guess is kinda Jono's point about Strauss

True, but there was no reason when Flintoff got it. Although I wouldn't be surprised if I backed that decision at the time, being an ultra-Freddie fanboy

I definitely agree that it is good to see a cricketer feeling hurt for being dropped. The last one to show anguish was Kallis when he was dropped for the T20 World Cup for RSA and he proved so well what a valuable T20 player he is since then. KP is one talented batsman and it would be good to see him do his talent justice. Morgan going strong and KP there, England could be a strong outfit in the future. I said it before and I will say it again, I like the shape of England in tests a lot.
Sorry he proved to be what!

Call me old fashioned, but for my quid the best way to respond to being dropped is to suck it up like a man and then go and demand selection with your preformances away from the national team.

Bitching on Twatter like a teenage girl just doesn't cut it with me, I'm afraid.

Just checked KP's recent ODI record. It's been shocking since World Cup 2007. I was surprised to see that.

Amen. We're not talking about a Reality TV contestant, who people like because he's "interesting", we're talking about a professional Sportsman who is playing for England.

It will not stand, blokes a rum cove.
