Kenya in South Africa

Bit of a nothing tour anyway isn't it - two ODIs? That's not even a series. A few games against the franchise sides might have been more beneficial.
Games against Franchise sides would certainly be beneficial and it would have been nice to see a longer tour with several of these culminating in the ODIs. In terms of moving the Associate game forward and building the game's profile in Kenya, the ODIs are invaluable. unless Kenya gets to play against Full members once in a while it is hard to see public interest getting behind it. counter to this is of course the fact that when we play the 'name' teams is that we must not only compete but also aim for an upset. Hard to see happening with these games, but one can hope...

But T20 is such an easier sell to the common man on the street. Its just bloody 3 hours and can be set up on as part of a weekend family event
If CK had someone who could market this, I would agree, but sadly their marketing, while gradually improving, is not good enough yet to bring in many new faces irrespective of the length of the game.

Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the series due to illness and is also likely to miss the Bangladesh series as well.

Rory Kleinveldt has been added to the Proteas training camp for next week and will be competing alongside Parnell, du Preez and Louw for Ryan McLaren’s now vacant all-rounder position.

Graeme Smith should be officially ruled out of the series in the coming days. Hashim Amla will bat for the first time this weekend since the England tour and if he comes through it ok he will replace Smith as opener.

Justin Ontong has came out and had a few choice words towards Mickey Arthur for his lack of opportunities, saying he would rather play franchise cricket then continually bench warm for the Proteas. Smart move that...

A provincial team then?

Just bumping this thread being as the ODI's are next week.

On another note I find it wierd none of the Associates have thought to play T20 cricket with anyone they have hosted r toured to. Kenya for example had a lot to gain from playing either Zimbabwe or Ireland in a one off T20 match when they were around.
Be hard for provincial teams considering their mandate is to produce local cricketers and field five black cricketers. Taking a Kenya will deprave a local white cricketer of an opportunity to play. If CSA wanted to help Kenya, invite them along with Zimbabwe, Namibia and maybe Uganda into the Pro 20, open it up by having all twelve domestic unions involved as well and turning it into a knockout cup initially and then a Super Eight tournament.

Great idea that - especially as it would open up the games to be viewed on tv in Kenya through supersport. Would do wonders in terms of building a local fan base. Would CSA be willing to do that though...

Sticky time...The series kicks off this week.

Johan Louw has been added to the one day squad, replacing Ryan McLaren. Louw, was the stand out performer in the training camp according to coach, Mickey Arthur. It’s pretty disappointing to see such a journeyman cricketer brought in and Louw was recently smashed against Sri Lanka A in a one day series and was comfortably outperformed by Wayne Parnell.

Incidentally all-rounder, Dillon du Preez withdrew from the camp at the eleventh hour for he didn’t want to endanger a Kolpak deal for next summer.

Monde Zondeki is also apparently going to be given the new ball for the one day games as Dale Steyn looks likely to miss out.

Hard to see the selectors making many changes to the XI that beat Zim.
Hopefully we will see Odoyo back bowling again... It could make a massive difference for the Kenyan attack.

I know that this was being shown live by supersport, but does anyone know if there is a way to get it live via the web? tv footage that is.

Steyn and Smith have been ruled out of the first ODI...

South African squad...

Johan Botha (capt), Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Johann Louw, Albie Morkel, Morné Morkel, Justin Ontong, Monde Zondeki.

Probable XI
Amla
Gibbs
Kallis
AB
Duminy
Albie Morkel
Boucher
Botha
Louw
Morne Morkel
Zondeki

Hardly the dramatic changes Mickey Arthur was talking about after the England debacle...

If we can get Gibbs early and keep Amla and Kallis quiet l;ong enough who knows. Odoyo and Ongondo are certainly capable with the new ball but from there if we have not gotten a feww early wickets it could get very ugly

I think SA saw McLaren and du Preez has being big additions but their counties have banned them playing for their country.

What was the last SA tour? I remember I made comments that were ridiculed by many in regards to Botha being captain in a warm up game.

Well he is now.

Looking ominous for Kenya after the first 10 overs.
Gibbs and Kallis rollicking along, though at least there has been the breakthrough from Ongondo to have Amla out early.
