You guys reckon there’s any way Bumrah can be denied MOTS? If India loses and performs poorly and Smith gets another ton or two?
He should get man of the series quite easily, but if Smith tons up again in Sydney, or Dreamboat Pat gets another 5 for/cracks a 50, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go with the winning team.

Bumrah deserves it though, He has had an amazing series. The polar opposite to the many whimpering, ineffectual English bowlers we have seen stain these shores since the year 2000.

Bumrah at 62 wickets in Australia currently is 17 wickets away from overtaking Curtly Ambrose (78) for most wickets in Australia. I'd imagine he'd probably get half way there in the next test at the rate he's going. Either way, whether he plays another series and consequently takes the record (handily) or not, he has the lowest average of any bowler in Australia with more than 50 wickets. The next 2 names and also the only other bowlers with a sub-20 bowling average are Hadlee and Ambrose.

No visiting bowler since world war I has taken even 20+ wickets in Australia at a better average

Head, Smith or Cummins might have a great game but there is no way in hell that Bumrah is going to fail.
He will at least get an 8 for match.
His later spells on day 4 looked pretty tired. He was down to high 120s at points. Not sure he's going to hold up great in the last test.

Siraj bowled great the second innings here tbf. But apart from that and a couple other spells from siraj/akash , it's literally only been bumrah who's had an impact. We'd be 3-0 or 4-0 down without him.
The ineffectiveness of Jadeja has been a real curiosity to me as well. A lot of criticism and carping about Lyon in this game and I guess fair enough, but Jadeja has looked even less effective to me.

They're both mostly toothless but Jadeja lost his lines a lot. Made things for the aussie tail yesterday so easy.

This is what has surprised me more than anything. I think the pitches have more or less neutralised spinners completely, but I expect Jadeja to at least keep it tight and be difficult to milk. Bowled a ton of junk in Brisbane too, way more loose stuff than I've seen in entire tours from him here.

I think Rohit has handled spinners really bad this series as well, on top of all his other mistakes as a captain. Jaddu was definitely inconsistent but the fields Rohit gave him and the times he introduced him to the attack were all really bad too. You pick 5 guys to bowl and you gotta trust them to bowl instead of just going to Bumrah or another seamer every other over.

I hope it's Bummy or Cummy who get the MotS. We are witnessing two bowling greats at their peaks. Enjoy it!

Last time, Cummins rightly won MOTS for 21 wickets @ 20.04 over Pant's 274 runs @ 68.5 which led the scoring for India and included 2 series defining knocks as well as the series winning one.

Bumrah after 4 tests has 30 wickets @ 12.8. To put that in context, the next best bowler Cummins despite excellent figures has 2/3 the wickets (20) at nearly twice the bowling average (22.65). Nobody on either side averages north of 60 even though Jaiswal and Head average in the 50s. Even a 60 batting average with lots of runs is roughly comparable to a bowler averaging 20 with 5 wickets a game imo, not 12 with 7.5 wickets a game. With any justice, Bumrah should have this MOTS in the bag already.

I remember comparing Bumrah’s 2024 stats a little while ago with some others..

but this is pretty shocking

Bumrah in 2024 - 71 @ 14.92

India in Bumrah’s matches - 7 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw
