And nothing to do with boring or exciting. Forget for a moment the excitement, and helping to expand the game etc.
If you have to cut half the shots out of your game to survive, or way more importantly, unable to accelerate the innings as needed during matches, you're not as good as someone who can.
That's not including the ability of Viv and the like being able to turn the tide of a match in a session. Causing the changing of fields, rotations, lines etc. The pressure that applies to an attack and captain can't be measured and can cause a domino effect, making things easier for those after you.
Great batsmen adapt and are capable of taking away or wining a match in any scenario, a lot of those guys just can't.
