The more you have, the better Test cricket is, undoubtedly.
However, I'd argue that you can still be a good Test side with nothing-much running between wickets (that form being far more about boundaries and strollable singles\twos) and with unathletic fielding, so long as once you get your hands to things (especially chances) they stick.
As a Test bowler, meanwhile, you can get by without variation far more easily than you can in ODIs, though this is something where the gap is smaller.
