Rohit will get runs for sure but that's why it'll hurt because they'll take him overseas. And this when we have several promising young openers. It's short sighted as ****.I actually think that in India he'll be fine opening. Still think Gill would be better though.
Shaw, in particular, could be ripe for a Vinod Kambli-esque career. Let's hope for more, though, yes.If India don't open with Gill they've got rocks in their head. Him and Shaw look potential ATG's to me. Burning Nohit as an opener in comparison is silly.
Think Rohit >> Finch/Roy though and even Finch got runs opening in the UAE, just got exposed hard at home. Not sure Rohit is such a lock to get runs while opening, even in India.
It's a completely different ballgame to white ball cricket as the likes of Finch and Roy have proven. Middle order, he may downhill ski a few runs against weaker opposition.
He should, but this team management and certain former players/members of the media have a seeming obsession with somehow squeezing Rohit into the Test team. The second any of our bats get into a rut, the murmurs of "Rohit Rohit Rohit" begin in the media, with new and increasingly questionable reasoning for his inclusion each time (TALENT; INTENT; uh...rahul sucks??) before turning into a loud chorus that makes his return seem inevitable. To their (very minimal) credit, Kohli/Shastri usually take a test or two to realize that it's a stupid idea and drop him, but they inexplicably keep going back to it. He must be great in the dressing room.Recently learned that Gill is an opener. How come he doesn't stroll into that opening spot?
He is 33 and he should be told to focus on the shorter formats where he makes a genuine difference. India have numerous world cups coming up over next few years where he could play a key role,,that should be his main focus not trying to figure out a format he has always struggled with.Does he even want a test career? Has anyone asked him?
