Whatever it takes!!!
Maybe it was Rahane's idea to have Ashwin come on early against Smith, and not Ashwin's own idea as he's claimed on YT
Literally everyone on Ashwin's shows and on Boria's interviews straight after BG Trophy said it was Shastri's idea to get Ashwin on early. The exact phrase was "in the first 45 mins". I dont think Ashwin ever claimed it was his idea anywhere.

And yes, Rahane is just having a salty whinge. There were about 6 players and entire coaching staff who had done interviews across media after the BG Trophy and almost all their stories are the same. This guy was clueless as a captain at Kanpur and is just angry that he gets no credit. I mean, in this same interview he is saying that averaging 20 means he has been performing great in test cricket and if we dont accept that, we dont understand cricket.

I mean there are banned CWers who would have better takes than this. He is just being an entitled brat.

Rahane doesn't have a history of talking non-sense, so it's not correct to just grill him for his comments. It'll be interesting to see what other players have to say about this.

And no, Rahane was not clueless in Kanpur, that wicket was getting slow AF towards the end, a draw was more or less inevitable but India got close to winning.

So I watched the interview and Rahane said exactly this. Dont think it stands up to scrutiny. Because Ashwin said it was Shastri's idea, and I dont think Ash would all of a sudden try to praise Shastri for something he didnt do.

The primary takeaway from this is how little self awareness he has. It was entirely because of his contribution to the BG series that he was retained in the team the entire year despite terrible form with the bat. He got OTT recognition for it ffs. Dude doesnt realise that but cries he doesnt get credit for it in interviews that Ash/Shastri gave? Lmao, what a fool.

The Rahane of today is a shellshocked ghost of whatever he may have been an year ago. It takes some character to come out with balance and perspective after what he's been through. Based on this interview, the guy's already gone into business for himself. I'm fully expecting an autobiography in the next year.

Boria bistar always manages to get inside info.. Proper leech this guy:lol:
Rahane's test career is over & talks are about Ishant refusing to play Ranji with his test career on deathbed as well.
Either way Rahane is leaving a legacy to remember. Rahane the undefeatable. Two BGT trophies to his name. Indian cricket's Karate kid:notworthy:robot:

I get Saha skipping the Ranji -at his age if he's not in the Test framework he may as well retire- but Ishant sitting out is strange. Ishant is very much still in the mix of things and should be using domestix to get his form back. Maybe he has some niggling injuries? But it's hard to see how he'll be back in the Test framework by not playing an entire season of Ranji.

i think they all see the writing on the wall and are being pragmatic about it (which is a good thing afaic. Indian cricket desperately needs an infusion of fresh blood...let's see for ourselves if its much-touted depth stands up to scrutiny). Siraj may have pipped Ishant to the post for good, Prasidh's not far from a Test berth himself. Not sure how an aging, injury-prone Ishant fits into the frame anymore.

I mean neither do Pant, Washington, Shardul, Siraj or even Ash and Pujara. And Bharat Arun, Sridhar, Rathore too.
It's not these guys word vs Rahane's word, what is this comparison  ??

Firstly, we are not even clear with what incidents Rahane was talking about, we are just making assumptions. Probably one or two other players might speak up about it and you might know what the actual issue was.

Rahane should be dropped for sure, but just calling him a liar without knowing the details is stupidity.

I dont think Ishant is done yet. Hoping he plays the second phase of Ranji and comes back as good as his post 2016 self.

Yeah Prasidh looks all set to get picked for Test series vs SL. Potential debut as well in the D/N game. TM seems to be heavily impressed with what he brings to the table & might be regretting to not give him opportunity in SA where we were just not able to create extra bounce & missed a tall hit the deck bowler.

Dravid is cleaning the house a bit & finally feels like we may go somewhere. Hopefully he sorts out test team before historic Final Test this summer in Edgbaston. We should not botch that opportunity whatever the cost.

We don't need him in tests tbh. He can focus on white ball cricket for the time being.

We do need him tbh.. Barring Bumrah Siraj we don't have any young options out there. Rest Shami Umesh have gone old. Ishant is finished.
So yeah there is bit of urgency. Prasidh is ideal Ishant successor with much higher ceiling.
We have Bumrah, Siraj and Shami who are going no where for now. Umesh and Ishant should be binned for Avesh, Saini and Prasidh, but at least Prasidh should wait IMO. We don't even know if he is fit enough to manage the test workload, he has barely played 9 FC games.

Also, COVID has stunted the growth of some of our younger pacers like Mavi, Tyagi, Nagarkoti, etc. who would have played a decent amount of Ranji cricket in the past 2 years.
